DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend

I thought this was going to a nice hotel, it's a Hilton. The room was filthy, extremely dilapidated with wallpaper and the AC unit repaired with tape. The AC unit made an awful sould that never stopped. It also never got me below 74 even though I set it at 68. This the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, the room was absolutely run down and disgusting.

The location was perfect. Staff was friendly. We were compt breakfast due to switching rooms.

We were asked to switch from a king to a double. Because it was for one night, it was no big deal. The room was falling apart. Wall paper was curling, the vent in the bathroom was rusted and not patched, and the road noise was very loud.

It was probably great when it was newer but it’s clearly in need of some major renovating. Everything was dusty, windows were dirty, no soap in the atrium bathroom, ice machine on our floor (3) smelled horrible, frequently smelled of cigarette smoke in our hallway and in the atrium. The positive was that all of the staff was very friendly, from the restaurant staff, housekeeping, and front desk.

The hotel is very old and really needs some updating. We had to run the hot water for 25 minutes before it got hot, the ice maker was removed from our floor(5), the carpeting in doorway to our room was ripped and frayed, same for the hallway going to the room. The room next to ours was being worked on so the banging began at 8:20 every morning. I would not stay here again.

Construction going on at the hotel without notification! Limited staff for shuttle service. Horrible experience!

It was very loud. Can hear traffic as if windows were open. Hot tub again, for second year in a row, does not work.
