DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel South Bend

I enjoyed the proximity to the downtown area. This property is currently under construction and the hotel should have been more up front with how limited the amenities were. There were no working ice machines, constant noise on the floor and the floors were super hot. They should at least be offering a discounter rate for all of the inconveniences.

Very upsetting on my wedding day. Why use a room and floor with no air. When standing in the hall waiting on elevator it was so hot it ruined my hair, felt like i was going to pass out from the heat. I had 5 rooms total. Very disappointed.

When we arrived at the hotel, we had high hopes. It's conveniently located in the heart of downtown South Bend, which made it an ideal choice for our stay. We were aware of the ongoing interior construction, so we came in with realistic expectations. Upon check-in, we were informed that the hotel was over capacity for king bed rooms. The front desk kindly offered us a room with two queen beds instead and, in return, waived our parking fee and provided two complimentary breakfast vouchers. We appreciated their effort to accommodate us and were told we'd be staying in one of the newly renovated rooms. When we got to the 9th floor, it was extremely warm—almost no airflow in the hallway. As we walked toward our room, we noticed a strong odor of mildew and sewage, which was unpleasant but we remained hopeful that our room would be better. Unfortunately, the same odor was present in the room. While the air conditioning worked, it wasn’t as effective as we had hoped. Additionally, the TV had technical issues—it would frequently freeze or fail to respond, requiring us to turn it off or change the channel manually. Overall, the room served its basic purpose as a place to sleep, but given the conditions, we likely wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Over booked king size rooms so we did two double bed rooms. First room they checked us into was leaking through the ceiling. Second room was just unclean. Stains on the walls. Just gross. Wedding in the atrium and the AC was broken. Pool ceiling was leaking into the pool. Hallways were an inferno. We checked out today (Sunday) and they were doing renovations at 8am in the morning. I’ll never stay here again. Just completely unacceptable.

Hot lobby and restaurant area. I guess the air conditioning wasn’t working. It did work in the room. TV didn’t work and there was only one large towel for 3 adults. We called and they moved us to a nicer room with all essentials. Employees were nice. But the hotel is very outdated.

Good location. Poorly maintained property.

As a proud Diamond member who spends 90% of the year traveling and regularly stays at Hilton properties around the world, I am shocked and dismayed by my recent stay at this location. Without question, this was the worst Hilton experience I’ve ever had — and one that left me questioning the brand’s commitment to quality and guest care. From the moment I arrived, red flags were everywhere. The hotel lobby had trash cans and buckets collecting water from the ceiling. That should have been the warning I needed, but I gave the property the benefit of the doubt — a mistake I won’t make again. Upon stepping off the elevator onto the 9th floor, I was hit with a wave of hot air that made the hallway feel like a sauna. It had to be at least 90 degrees, if not hotter. I saw room staff sweating, exhausted, and using washcloths to keep cool — clearly struggling in these conditions. I asked if they were okay, and was told, “They’re renovating.” That excuse doesn’t make it acceptable to put both staff and guests in such an unbearable, unsafe environment. The hallway temperature never improved throughout my stay. Once inside my room, the disappointments continued: The USB outlets beside the beds didn’t work — I tried multiple cords, no luck. The TV froze repeatedly, making it impossible to enjoy for more than a few minutes at a time. The bathtub had hair along the walls, a clear sign of poor housekeeping. Worst of all, the bar of hand soap had clearly been used and placed back in the dish — absolutely disgusting. The pool was closed for the entire three-day stay — with zero notice provided on the website or at check-in. Had we known, we would have never booked here. That kind of omission is misleading at best, dishonest at worst. To top it all off, the on-site restaurant was a disaster. At 5:00 PM, only two tables were occupied — a clear sign of what was to come. My buffalo chicken wrap arrived cold, and after 25 minutes of my server disappearing, I had to get up and find her in the kitchen just to pay my bill. That is unacceptable service, period. This hotel should not carry the Hilton name.

The hotel is extremely dated and not very clean. Not worth the price point. They also have 0 car charging stations at the property. Had to charge 3 blocks away and walk back and forth.
