InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco by IHG

This was my second stay at this property, and the experience could not have been more different! Arriving at check in, I gave our booking details for the two rooms to the assistant, and at no point were our Diamond Ambassador and Diamond status acknowledged. On the contrary, I was advised that room upgrades are not effective on reward nights (completely at odds with the Ambassador website) and something which was recognized at all of the other IHG establishments on our road trip, all of which provided upgrades and extras without request. When I discussed paying for an upgrade and suggesting a suite, I was told “there is no availability for what you are willing to pay”. Since I was entitled to a room upgrade in any event, I did propose a further $100 per night for a suite, but this was never accepted or any alternative amount proposed. I did speak latterly with David on reception (someone I had met on my last visit), but he could not offer anything other than to highlight the standard beverage assignment entitlement of my Diamond membership saying “he did give you a $20 food and beverage credit” ……moot point!! Other staff members in the restaurant and the door staff we charming and professional, however I remain utterly disappointed with the attitude at check in, and would never stay at this hotel again. Incidentally, the 2 star rating is purely in recognition of the other staff members who were courteous and interactive throughout.

What a lovely hotel. Fantastic setting and facilities. Friendly staff, reception and the rooftop bar. Our room was lovely, well appointed and following an upgrade (our honeymoon) big room and comfy larger bed. Of most note is the staff. Roy in reception made us feel most welcome, organised our check in efficiently and smoothly. Couldn't have asked for a better arrival and greeting. Roy also gave us some advice for our trip to Hawaii and followed this up with an email. As a lovely surprise Roy also arranged flowers, wine and chocolate strawberries for our room. Delicious thoughtful surprise. Also want to mention Tony on the door who set us off in to town in the right direction!

A little overpriced for the food, and it was okay.

Attention to detail and very good customer service

Not a good choice of Wines in restaurant where we dined , we love a good Pinot noir and the 2 choices were not the best and for the price point very disappointing

Proximity to Masonic Concert building.
