10.0

We had a fabulous time. All the staff we very welcoming! The hotel is extremely well run. In particular, our regular cleaner ( Lamin B.K Fofana) was brilliant- always friendly, prompt and kept our room spotless. He is a absolute credit to the hotel. We will definately be back to stay at the African Princess.

"Great experience"

10.0

Great place to stay. It’s located right by a beautiful beach, and if you enjoy sports, the best experience you can get is the Gambian training sessions (with trainer Khan) on the beach with local guys, near the restaurant where is the palm tree. Just ask at reception - they start every day around 17:00–17:30 and are completely free! Thank you Khan 🙏

"An absolutely beautiful resort!!"

10.0

Excellent to say the least. Beautiful, nice and quiet and the amenities are brilliant like the infinity pool and the private pools outside the hotel room. It’s also on the beachfront which is an added bonus and the views are amazing. One thing to mention would be the staff- I’ve stayed in Bakadaji Hotel for the last few visits and their staff are much friendlier and attentive (maybe because they’re familiar with me) but they’re very accommodating and they always greet you and smile and make you feel welcome. Anything you need, Bakadaji will always try their best to accommodate. The staff here are great too! But the kitchen staff do need to be more talkative, smile and most of responsive. The chefs behind the counter don’t even respond or smile, they look miserable but maybe they were just having a bad day. Aside from this, I cannot fault this place whatsoever!!! The room service staff are excellent and very friendly and very accommodating. I will definitely be back here and would recommend it to anyone.

"Gambia - The Smiling Coast"

10.0

A beautiful and lovely hotel. It always looked like it was empty but it was actually 80% full. It is set out so it never looks busy. The swim up rooms were gorgeous and a lot of people stayed in their rooms for this reason. The hotel was on the beach so there was easy access to and from the swimming pool to the sea. You do get approached by people selling fresh fruit but as long as you say a firm 'no' then they leave you alone. I did see some people purchase fruit and it looked really good! The food in the hotel was great with prices ranging from £8 for a burger to £21 for fresh shrimps etc. The staff were friendly and on point! The local 'strip' had a lot of great restaurants, bars and nightclubs with the busiest day being Sunday - when all the locals come out to socialise. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. The best restaurants we found were: 1) Scarlet 2) Gusto 3) Darbo's We did one trip, over to Senegal, to do a safari, which was an experience! If you do not have your yellow fever vaccination they charge you a 'tax' of £14. The trip was great. Hot and tiring but worth doing. You will get harrased by people wanting to sell you water, fruit etc. I can see the locals are just trying to make a living so personally I would keep some change to give out, to help their livelihood/ economy. We found a great taxi driver, Tony (The Lion King) that kept to local prices and was very friendly and accommodating without being pushy. He took us out to the 'strip' each night and charged us 300dalasi. We would WhatsApp him if we needed transport. Tel: (+200) 3554696 Lastly, the UV rating over here is around 11 (bearing in mind the UK is always around 3 -5). So even if it just 23°C you are more likely to burn. In otherwords ..don't forget your SPF. 🙂 Overall, I would definitely recommend this adult only, beautiful, clean and friendly hotel! We would come again.

"Unexpected excellence"

10.0

When Gambia was suggested as a destination for us I was at first not sure. However we decided on the African princess hotel based on it's reviews. Arriving in Gambia is definitely an experience, you have to pay 20 dollars or pounds on arrivall and departure at the airport per person. Dollars are obviously the cheaper option. You can't pay in the Gambian Dalasi as you can't get money until you arrive as it's closed currency. This was a pre trip slight worry but don't let that bother you. You can get money at the airport but we got it at the hotel which is open all day and competitive enough. The hotel is absolutely fantastic with amazing helpful staff. Very well appointed rooms and very clean. The pools are the cleanest pools I have ever seen around the world. The restaurant is not expensive with a good choice and very tasty. There isn't much in the way of entertainment, but a short walk up the street is plenty of bars with live bands and entertainment. The hotel was 80% full but always seemed quite. You could always get a sunbed and no need to save them as half the rooms are swimup rooms with sunbeds. A short drive away is the main strip with all the restaurants and bars, with a great choice and price range and definitely cheaper than the hotel, buf not by much. Scala was a great restaurant with a great Chateau briand fillet at £15. The absolute stand out of this holiday was meeting Tony The Lion king. One thing when you leave the hotel is you get swamped with people trying to offer taxi, trips, food etc. They are pushy but harmless and trying to make a living. Tony approached us and was the nicest and not pushy at all. He gave us his card and what's app text him each night. Here is his number 220 3554696, you won't regret it. He Kept his car clean and was always there when we needed him. He also does guided day trips at great prices. He made it so simple and recommended many restaurants, which were all great. I was nervous the first night going to the strip but absolutely no issues and we all loved it. The Gambia is a great destination and eye opener with real life experience right in front of you. The weather is fantastic. If we ever come back it will be to the African Princess hotel as they just nailed it.
