African Princess Beach Hotel

Absolutely loved our stay. We were supposed to be in Dubai but due to the conflict it was cancelled and we rebooked to The Gambia. What a blessing that was. The African Princess was an oasis of calm, peaceful relaxation. We loved it!! The staff are super friendly, the pool guys were lovely. The swim up room was a good size and comfortable. There were a few power cuts but only for a few minutes. Weather was glorious. I actually preferred the heat to the intense overbearing heat of Dubai! Even the sea was warm! Only complaint: the restaurant menu although full of excellent choices, for me as an IBS sufferer I tried to order plain food ie can I have it without the dressing/sauce but every time I was told no. It comes as per the menu. I only wanted plain pasta with chicken nothing out of the ordinary but no it came smothered in cheese sauce. For me that’s a problem I don’t know if it was a language barrier or the chef really is that inflexible. I tried several times. Would we return? ABSOLUTELY!!!

I liked the love musicians! The property is beautiful and walkable. The surrounding ocean sites are inceredible!

Peaceful setting, breakfast not rushed or too busy. Book swim up rooms are much nicer experience. Exchange of money was easily done at Hotel and cashpoint just outside door of reception. Bar drinks good not overpriced but bar food was not to our tasting. Cleaners - we had a male cleaner mainly and room was cleaned quite late and towels / waters could arrive afterwards. Odd occasion we had woman cleaner and room was done earlier and smelt so much cleaner.

This was our third time staying at African princess (and also our 3 week honeymoon). We had a pool room. The hotel is always clean and very well looked after by all of the housekeepers, gardeners and pool attendants who are also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a vast selection and definitely something for everybody. We ate at the hotel just the once in the evening as we like to explore the local restaurants. The restaurant staff are very polite and keep the tables clean as well as the chefs etc keeping all the food options fully stocked. We love this hotel as it is lovely and peaceful which is exactly what we want from our holiday! The hotel does have entertainment and the local restaurants etc also have entertainment. So if you want to go and find noise, you absolutely can! We can’t wait to come back for our 4th visit!

I can’t praise Lamin B.K Fofana enough, he used to clean the block of rooms we were staying in. He always made a great job of our room but was always so friendly and helpful with any question we had. He also helped us get late check out as our pick up for the airport wasn’t until 5pm it was a long wait without a room to shower and freshen up in so he organised a later check out for us. We would have been lost without this. He is so polite and always smiling. He recognised us for other times we have stayed in the African Princess and was as always very welcoming.
