The Tan Hill Inn

The atmosphere, the service, the food, the room comfort.

The staff's inabilty to deal with five younger people who were arrogant enough to think it was fine to swear profusely and vape indoors. A staff member did approach them but only to say food had stopped being served, they back answered and the staff member used bad language to respond. Ultimately nothing was dealt with. They were local, perhaps regulars, but still..

The inn is in a beautiful setting, middle of nowhere and lovely scenery. Its a very cosy pub with fires lit for that even cosier feel. We stayed the night in a gorgeous room with a log burner. I very much enjoyed reading all about the Tan Hill whilst having a glass of wine sat in bed as I didn't realise it was so historic. As they dont have mains electricity they run off a generator which kept going off. This wasnt a problem as we just went downstairs to get more wine! As all the electricity was off for some time, the only meals on the menu available were chicken curry or beef hotpot. This wasnt a problem either , we sat in the pub playing cards and enjoyed our food. The bed was extremely comfortable. We would have loved to have stayed another night but sadly couldn't. We'll definitely stay again.

When we arrived to check in, the young lady behind the bar wasn't very welcoming, no smile, not much customer service skills. She told us the room wasnt ready yet which was fine, but we didnt feel very welcome. We went for a little walk then sat and had a drink whilst waiting. The gentlemen that were working there were all friendly which is what you want in a pub.

Great location. Brilliant pub. Amazing staff. Exceptional food.

Very sticky tables that need to be wiped down. Beer glasses not cleaned properly with lipstick from previous user still on the glass. Only one towel per guest in the room (you need two at least- it's not nice having to use wet or damp towels twice). The heating wasn't activated in the room (we stayed here in January - the heating should be on).

A very warm and welcoming pub with a great atmosphere. The room was simple but perfectly comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was absolutely excellent and fantastic value for money. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Kelly, who went above and beyond to look after us and make sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. The only small downside was having to walk through the pub with our luggage — a separate entrance for the rooms would have made this even easier — but overall we had a really enjoyable stay and would happily return.

The dining room was very busy and felt somewhat crowded, with limited space between tables. The bedroom had dog hair and dog biscuits on the floor. There were no electrical sockets beside the bed, and the bedroom window was quite draughty. Additionally, the towels provided were rather small and could be improved by offering larger ones

Great staff, superb food from a fabulous menu. Excellent atmosphere.
