Hilton Tapestry Collection, Hotel Don Fernando De Taos

The staff tried their best to make up for the short fall.

The place is past it's prime, needs some TLC.

Everything was great until we got ready for bed and pulled back the bedding. The sheets were soiled, I took a picture and sent it to Samantha, the lady that reached out after check in to see if all was good. It was until bedtime. We were exhausted, ready for bed and did not want to move to another room. My husband put a towel down over the soiled area and slept on that side of the bed. Samantha said she sent the picture to her manager, but we never heard anything back. I would not be writing this now, but received the email asking about our stay.

The Tapestry Collection was a new Hilton group for us. It is certainly true that the Don Fernando is a very different hotel setup - several buildings with no interconnections, and some with upper levels reached by stairways and upper decks. There were a few sitting areas near the check-in. They shared with the room we had the low light levels that made it almost impossible to sit and read (the only brightly-lit space was the indoor pool!). Our room was quite large, but sparsely furnished - two chairs and a mini table - and was only lit with standing lamp in the corner, lamps on the bedside tables, and two mini lamps on the table. The bathroom light was much better, if you wanted to read while sitting on the toilet..The wall behind the bed was a giant painting of chile peppers, the only decoration!. Amenities such as the ice-dispenser were hard to find, and in one case not working. The furniture looked antique and apparently was...several of the drawers in the standing chest and TV support were almost impossible to ope and appeared to be nearly falling apart. I'd certainly not recommend this to friends wanting to visit Taos.

My wife & I cam to Hotel Don Fernando de Taos and found this beautiful hotel… it really fits the Taos lifestyle and it is beautiful, spacious room and the staff was really nice at check in… Highly recommend it, if your staying in Taos!

Love the hotel lobby but not sure the rest of this motel belongs in the Hilton Tapestry collection. Half of the rooms are on the second floor with no elevators which makes for a difficult slog with luggage especially in the high altitude. Older folks may have difficulty. The mattresses are old and uncomfortable. And where the ice machines are hidden, I don’t know, but none are noted on the map they hand out. We got our ice at the bar. The checkout process was confusing with an obviously untrained clerk.

This hotel is worn and appears not to have been refurbished for some time. Both rooms we were assigned were not properly cleaned--dirty towels left in the bathroom and a smear on the bedspread in one, a pile of sweepings behind the bathroom door in another. To make matters worse, the hotel charges premium prices in line with luxury properties. This is NOT a luxury property. If you're expecting a Super 8 or Motel 6, you'll be satisfied. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.
