Delta Hotels by Marriott San Jose Aurola

Daniel at the bar was very fun to hang out with! He prepared different typical drinks from Costa Rica and was very amenable to hang out with. Also the food was very good, if you want something to drink you should definitely try “Pura Vida” it is really sweet.

We stayed at the Delta Hotels San José Aurola and quickly realized: this wasn’t a relaxing stay – it was a full-on horror hotel experience. The area is dark and sketchy, with shady individuals and poor street lighting. The hotel itself feels like it hasn’t been renovated since the 1970s. Our first room had a door that wouldn’t open without force – unsettling to say the least. Inside, the room smelled of mold, the furniture was dated, and the toilet produced an unbearable siren-like noise. After requesting a new room, we got one with the same unpleasant smell. The walls were so thin that even on the 14th floor, we heard traffic, motorcycles, and loud music from nearby clubs until 3 a.m. The most frightening part: on the first night at 1 a.m., two unknown men attempted to enter our room with what seemed to be valid key cards. They only failed because we had double-locked the door. It was a terrifying experience. We reported it immediately and followed up multiple times, but the hotel never gave us a clear explanation. We still don’t know if it was a mistake or an attempted break-in. Later in the stay, the room safe suddenly lost power and popped open – compromising the security of our valuables. On top of that, housekeeping repeatedly forgot to replace towels or clean the bathroom. We had to ask several times just to receive fresh towels and basic cleaning. Breakfast was overpriced (more than €20 per person) with very limited options, and on our last day, there was no hot water in the shower. This stay was far below the expected Marriott standard – the combination of poor hygiene, noise, serious safety concerns, and staff indifference made it one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the price, and absolutely not recommended.

I stayed 2 nights at the Delta Aurola with my family. The staff and their client service approach were remarkable. The Delta Aurola loses points in terms of cleanliness and comfort. As soon as we stepped out of the elevator, there was a strong smell of damp and humidity. The rooms and halls have carpets, which do not help. We had to ask for a room change, and still, we felt like we were covered in humid sheets despite the AC and temperature control. Also, the place needs renovations as the installations were outdated, and some were mouldy. The buffet was good. Again, the service was friendly, very helpful and always with a smile.

The location was ideal for getting around San José. Shopping and Cultural aspects were all within walking distance. The area felt safe, and you could easily traverse at night. The hotel dining left a lot to be desired, and more menu options or daily adjustments to the menu would be an asset.

We spent 7 nights here. Downtown location, surrounded by several small but pleasant and lovely public parks. It is an older property and a little shopworn, but our room was always very clean, beds and bedding very comfortable, coffee service replenished daily, good selections available on the Television. Signs on each lodging floor indicate the hotel is undergoing renovation. Hopefully they will include modern tech outlets in the rooms - nary a single usb hub to be found in our room, just standard wall electrical outlets and very few available ones of those. The main public floors - lobby, restaurant, bar, are very modern, inviting, and spotless. The hotel staff are wonderfully responsive to any need of the guests. Restaurant breakfast (buffet style) was tasty and had a decent selection of choices. I need to give a special shoutout to Daniel in the hotel's bar - outstanding and very friendly service - we often had dinner in the bar rather than the restaurant due to Daniel's pleasant and professional manner.

This city hotel is undergoing renovations to update but they have worked to make sure it’s not unpleasant.

The staff of the hotel could not have been more accommodating and gracious. We will definitely visit again. Daniel and Ricardo (plus the entire staff) of the La Palma bar and restaurant were so kind and fun! Alfredo, the Bellman was helpful and also kind. Dennis assisted us in choosing tours. Location was wonderful and we can’t say enough about the staff! PS. Luisa and Dominic at the front desk gave us a room with a wonderful view!

They are doing renovations in the whole building. We walked into our room and it smelled musty and everything was damp. We sat on the bed and felt like the sheets were wet. The room was extremely humid and the AC didn't work. We tried to call to the front desk and the phone didn't work. The food and drinks at the bar were not great. We waited an hour for pizza and boneless wings. We stayed at two other much less expensive places on our trip that was much better in all ways. We expected at least that from a Marriot.
