Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island by IHG

Overall, the rooms and grounds have been acceptable. The two negative points are that the margaritas are very mediocre and definitely not worth $12. The second and more disappointing is when I went to the front desk at 2:15 to check in for our fourth room that I had requested as an early check in when we checked in the others yesterday. The front desk attendant did not check the computer and said that no rooms are available until 4:00. I reiterated that it was marked yesterday for early check-in if available, and she replied that the hotel is full so no rooms are available until 4:00 then just stared at me. Since she was unwilling to check my reservation or the room status, she also did not acknowledge my Diamond Elite status for the first time since becoming DE. I did not think to look at her name tag, but she is a Caucasian female with shoulder-length straight, blonde hair. She didn’t seem to appreciate my bothering her and then quickly disappeared into the back room again. I hope that IHG has not lowered the support for employees as evidenced by the front desk attendant’s job dissatisfaction with assisting guests. Nevertheless, it has been an otherwise enjoyable get away.

The room was clean and comfortable and there are plenty of seating areas throughout the outside of the hotel including a fire pit. I will definitely go again.

We enjoyed our stay the only complaint I have is our room was supposed to be a ocean view but it was mostly covered by palms which made it a partial ocean view at best definitely not a ocean view. The description of the room stated ocean view with terrace.

The resosrt was on the beach and had a lovely location. The hotel was not clean and well-maintained. There were patches of concrete missing on the walkways. There were many locations where the paint was missing and had not been repaired. The carpet and floor in the unit were not clean. There was a lot of debris under the mattress on the sofa bed in the living room. There weren't any linens, blanket or pillows for the sofa bed. Multiple lights in the unit did not work. The same debris was in the elevator for multiple days.

So, I was hesitant to write this review as this hotel has been a favorite in the past. However, folks need to be aware of how this “resort” has declined. First off, rooms are smelly and definitely need updating. Walls and doors are dirty, furniture is chipped and showing lots of wear and tear. It’s obvious that nothing has been done to the hotel since the renovation in 2015. Time for an update!!! Then there’s the issue of the pool….beautiful pool beachside. However, they allow people from surrounding rental properties to use the facilities, therefore pool chairs are taken over by families of 10-12 that aren’t even guest at the property!!! We even had one family from a nearby house continually pull their golf outside our room, blocking our ocean view we paid for. The free bikes are rusty, falling apart. Flat tires, chains off….just like the rest of the property, not maintained and potentially hazardous. Asked for a pump….maintenance not available (if there is such staff located at the property). Asked for towels….they act like I’m asking for a million bucks…. Sorry for the long rant but highly frustrating for a room that runs $359/night….definitely would expect more.

1st night, A/C didn’t work, next morning, asked a/c to be looked at or get a new room. Came back after a day at the beach, room still at 78 degrees, went to front desk , was told maintenance looked at it and it was working,(not!!) and there was no more rooms available. Went to dollar general to buy a fan, suffered through 2nd night. Went to check out, asked for a discount, was told by assistant manager (tubby female) that there was nothing she could do! Never again Holiday Inn!!!

Location was perfect. Close to everything. The breakfast service and food was great. Our two fur babies really enjoyed being able to travel with us. Can’t wait to go back.

We love the proximity of shops, dining and of course to the beach! The atmosphere was very family friendly. I wish they had a lending shed or something so that folks coming from our of town can borrow beach chairs and toys rather than having to buy them and leave them. The room was incredibly spacious but had a stagnant pet smell when we arrived. Found someone else's used floss on the floor. Could have been a touch cleaner. Staff was incredibly helpful. Kim and Nathan were awesome and the bartender was fabulous as well. We felt a little put off by morning waitress who seemed annoyed that we asked for our IHG employee discount. Dining options were good and the food was decent, but there were limited gluten free options and the dryer has soy oil. Soy is an ever increasing allergy so the different oil would be a great thing to consider so our gluten and soy free friends can have some french fries! Morning coffee was a great perk for us but a large coffee is ten bucks and a personal cereal was nearly $7. Pool hours were great and the pool and hot tub were very clean. On a rainy day, having the cushions turned over it dry would be nice and the area around the pool could be better picked up. Overall a great experience and we would definitely stay again. Appreciated the shuttle and laundry room and gym.
