Kiso Mikawaya

We booked a room with dinner and breakfast. Room was fine but we were not happy w dinner at all. We were excepting traditional dinner at onsen hotels however it was not. We were served something we get for lunch. No fresh sashimi or any other items they usually served at most onsen hotels.

Dinner! Not we have expected! It was something they served for lunch! No sashimi, egg custard or other items.

The hotel was a little dated, but that didn't bother us at all. It was on the edge of the river and our room overlooked it. The onsen was a highlight, especially after a long day of walking (there are 2...1 for women, 1 for men). The beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was ok. There was a mixture of items available from salads, rice, curry, muffins, toasts, eggs etc. There was a free drinks machine accessible 24 hours a day which was a nice touch, as was the items on display near reception that you could help yourself to, such as hair ties and hair brushes. I appreciated the guide to using the onsen. In the town, we had a gorgeous steak meal in the old part of town, and a cafe called Soma was excellent. The trail up to the waterfall and beyond was good fun too!

Not much really. It was an 11 minute walk to the rail station, and there were decent options for dinner in town.

The room overlooked a river with a blooming Sakura infront. Cracking the window, I was able listen to the river as I drifted asleep. Very close to everything. Helpful with contacting transporter for getting our luggage to next hotel. Very well set up for Nakasendo hikers!
