Staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

Shower screen was tired and marked, shower wasn't very powerful although we appreciate it is an old building.

"A very sad disappointment"

1.0

The property itself is full of history & a beautiful building.

Sadly The Priory is in desperate need of work. The paintwork is tired, chipped & peeling throughout the building. Panels are missing from the ceiling in places showing plumbing & wiring. There are also many damp patches & stains. The curtains in our room were held on by the only 2 remaining curtain rings which meant they could not be closed leaving the outside floodlights to beam straight into the room all night. The heating system is also faulty. The radiators in our room were so hot I burnt my leg on the one in the bathroom. Upon opening any windows to lower the excessive heat in the room we found the sash system to be broken making the windows instantly close again. A very uncomfortable sleepless night. We ordered a “full English” breakfast in the morning & wished we hadn’t. We expected much better from this hotel than to be served what was obviously cheap bulk catering quality food. The scrambled egg had a dreadful metallic taste, the baked beans were so sweet that they were unbeatable, the tomato was tasteless & although the sausage purported to be pork it certainly didn’t taste like it. Most of the breakfast remained on the plate. It’s so sad to see a once prestigious hotel like this fall into disrepair & its standards drop to this level

Lovely staff, ideal spot in Hitchin.

Hitchin priory is a lovely spot to stay but though the room was comfortable it was dated and could do with some more modernisation especially the bathroom. We had 2 rooms booked our second room was dirty and the curtains were broken
