"Amazing time in Chiang Mai"

10.0

We first tried to stay here for New Year’s Eve but couldn’t get a room — and after finally coming back nine months later, we understood why it’s always fully booked. Every single expectation we had was not only met, but exceeded. The resort is absolutely stunning. We’ve never seen so much green in one place — lush gardens, ponds, rice fields, and flowers everywhere you look. The villas are beautifully integrated into nature, giving the impression that the hotel is almost empty, even when it’s not. You rarely see anyone nearby, which makes it incredibly peaceful and private. The star of our stay was definitely the breakfast — outstanding local food, a wide variety of options, and impeccable service. Every member of the staff seems genuinely happy to make your day better. We also joined a few of the resort activities, like washing the buffalo — such a unique and surprisingly fun experience! Our room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, with a large bathroom and a lovely outdoor area overlooking the pond and rice fields. It may not be brand-new, but it’s extremely cozy and full of charm. This is a true five-star property where luxury meets serenity. The service is flawless, the setting is unforgettable, and we can’t wait to come back again.

"Phenomenal!!"

10.0

I had doubts coming here since the property is more than 30 years old and has changed hands before becoming an FS! But all of these disappeared the moment we arrived! It has been seamlessly renovated and everything was just spectacular! Don’t expect modern amenities like USB ports or electric drapery, but the place is so beautiful you don’t miss it! This is definitely one of the best hotels we’ve been to! My daughter says it’s the best FS!

"Terrific pool villa at a top-tier Four Seasons."

10.0

There is an effortlessness to the Four Seasons Chiang Mai that is surprising and impressive. We stayed for 5 nights in a pool villa, which we strongly recommend. The interior was resplendent. The air conditioning was bone chilling. The bed was exceptional and classic Four Seasons. I thought repeatedly, when I woke up each morning, of being in a warm cocoon and how each minute was sheer pleasure. I love the Four Seasons bedding and pillows. The blackout curtains were true blackout. The bathroom area was spacious and we used the indoor and outdoor shower areas. The products were Natura Bisse and in bulk form. The WiFi was excellent. We had a transfer from another hotel which was easy and efficient. The pool villa is a standalone structure essentially with walls all around it and then there is almost a moat of water then on the inside of the walls. The entire area is really ensconced in white noise from two small man-made waterfalls/water features outside on each side of the room. You look into essentially jungle with a small diverted river to the front of the room. This offered complete privacy visually and audibly. We have the sense that these pool villas were added after the original opening of the resort and they were added in somewhat densely configured format. I would in no way be concerned about this. The architect/designer who put this together is brilliant because no sacrifices of privacy were made. We felt like we were on our own planet when we were in our room. We spent most of our time in our pool reading. The pool was quite large and was very comfortable to be in. There was really no sense of any pool chemicals. It’s practically like we were in fresh water. We came in the low season. We love the rainy season for Asian travel because the rain cools things off. We were never interrupted. Take our advice and come in September. At the center of the facility are rice paddies and a medium sized lake that most of the buildings face. They also keep a handful of water buffalos who you can meet. They seem very happy and well tended to. You can wash a water buffalo (while it placidly chomps on leaves), which was fun. While we were washing one, there was another water buffalo about 75 feet away, playing in mud and then jumping in the water. I’ve never seen a happier animal. Across the pond is the adults-only pool, which offers a quite exceptional view of the nature and abundant lush trees. My husband also took a curry cooking class with Chef Tor, and he felt it was such a wonderful experience. The resort is a rather far distance from Chiang Mai itself, it takes about 40 minutes to drive into town. We stayed at another property in the city for three days before coming to the Four Seasons. We would recommend this even if none of the places in the city proper are at this caliber. You just spend less time in transit. Once you are at the Four Seasons, it’s just best to stay here. The food is delicious. There are two main restaurants. One is Thai and the other is Western. My husband has more adventurous tastes and I have more bland conventional tastes and both of us were very satisfied. The breakfast is a buffet and menu order set-up. We found the food to be fresh and delicious. We also had room service several times for breakfast and found it to be really quite exceptional. The staff is professional and focused. They want you to have a very good time. They are not overbearing, which can be a problem at other brands. They quickly learned our preferences — we love sparkling water, for instance, and every night at dinner they would have several bottles on ice for us. These people are hospitality professionals. Alisa at Khao deserves a special shoutout for her fabulous hospitality. What a pro. The spa is top notch, we had some of the best massages of our lives there. The concierges are all pros. We asked ourselves if we were going to miss “the beach” in our Asian “beach” vacation and we didn’t. We didn’t miss the ocean at all. We are a gay couple. The staff could not have cared less, which is how we like it. We are fairly regular consumers of resorts of this caliber in Asia. Benchmarking this against other Thai resorts, I would rather stay here than stay at Amanpuri in Phuket. I would put this in a very high caliber and believe it represents among the best in Asia. I did not expect this and was pleasantly surprised. It made me want to stay at more Four Seasons. We booked through a Four Seasons Preferred Partners advisor and recommend doing so. We get the sense that is meaningful to the staff. I’m not sure why but you definitely get the vibe that it seems to be important to them. Completely unrelated to this truly luxurious resort and really only a cautionary note if you are considering staying at a high end resort in Asia, read my review of (barf) Mandapa: A Ritz-Carlton reserve. That place is comically awful and really a corporate dumpster for the most basic of people.
