El Cozumeleño Beach Resort - All Inclusive

We love El Cozumeleno and all the people that work here. The beach is beautiful the staff worker hard to make everyone’s stay special. Con. We are current guest and have noticed the smoking laws are not enforced. The pavilion and beach are almost unbearable with the amount of smokers. Much worse that even before the laws were changed.

I really appreciated the staff! The building itself needs repairs/updates. Pool bar was open 2/12 days. Workout facility was ridiculous, in a bad way. Very clean overall.

Not even sure where to start… We arrived on New Year’s Eve and have to say that was a good time and then it went downhill from there. My husband and I went with my elderly father, so I was really looking forward to a great vacation since he doesn’t go away often The rooms were nice and spacious and nice balconies, however dirty and outdated. Our sink was broken from day one and we asked numerous times, but was never fixed during their time we were there. You’re allowed only two waters a day in your room and if you don’t get cleaning done that day and ask for one downstairs they told us to go to the bar and get a cup of water or buy one at the store😳 The couch was stained as was the sheets on the bed when we got there The food wasn’t just horrible, but was also scarce. We believe they must’ve made a big order of food for New Year’s Eve and then just kept reusing the same food for the whole week. At dinner, they would use the hotdogs and the mayonnaise that were sitting out all day near the pool and mix it with some noodles and call that pasta. There was no cheese the entire time we were there and when we finally saw some behind the grill and asked for some, they said they didn’t have any The only fruit I saw all week was watermelon. bananas if you were lucky at the bar. No desserts for the whole week except Jell-O in the buffet. We went to the buffet one night at 7 PM and there was literally nothing there Only some chicken with a weird sauce on it, refried beans and undercooked fish There was no one working at the grill. Salad was all gone and no rice or potatoes. We went to tell them at the front desk and they shrugged their shoulders We ended up ordering a pizza from Domino’s down the street and the person at the front desk was angry because we had to get her to order it since they didn’t speak English at Domino’s Of course we didn’t get reimbursed for having to buy our own food I definitely got food poisoning and was violently ill. ( this was before we ate outside of the hotel ) And I heard that f other people that experienced this also ! Now for the drinks. There is no fresh fruit as I mentioned so they just mix the heavy syrup with ice and a touch of alcohol and called that a blender drink The pop machine was broken the entire week There’s no dress code in the buffet, so you can literally have lunch while a bare butt is in your face. Quite unhygienic. They closed the only à la carte one night and wouldn’t give an explanation and then one person said they were cleaning it Not that it was worth it The lasagna that I had in there had cut up burger from again the pool bar in it that was sitting out all day I couldn’t even eat it I felt bad because what was to be a nice vacation with my father turned out to be a nightmare. There was people leaving to go home or switch hotels. I would really reconsider if you’re planning on going here and I’m not a picky person or a foodie . But I do expect a level of service and also to have edible food and if you’re a vegetarian you wouldn’t survive This is definitely a two star at the best The only nice thing was the snorkelling It really could be a beautiful piece of property with the proper management When we went into town, which was often because we had to eat somewhere, the locals told us that it used to be the place to go. But now it’s gone downhill because of the owner. There’s a lot of people that have said theyve been going for 13 years, etc. etc. Well that’s nice but they haven’t experienced what we did obviously and if you look at the reviews, I’m not the only one that feels this way. There’s been a huge influx of bad reviews recently and I think something’s happening at that hotel that’s management and owners fault .. Spending three days in the room on vacation with food poisoning is not fun And we shouldn’t have to have spent so much money to buy food offsite because it was so poor quality or scarce at the hotel we’re staying. Definitely go somewhere else! Worst place I’ve ever been. And I did look at the reviews beforehand and they looked positive, but definitely was not anywhere close to how they were describing it

January 2026 Stayed 8 nights in Jan at El Cozumeleno and have been there multiple times. The food is delicious from buffet and menu!! Snorkeling, minigolf, hammock surfing, relaxing by pool, walk on the beach, plenty of activities! Quick taxi ride downtown for food, shopping, taxis are usually waiting at resort. Roberto and Carlos at Guest Services, Martha, Fatima, Santiago, Manuel at Check-in desk are always helpful with your needs!! Federico in lobby will help with luggage, taxi, anything else you need! Wait staff always goes above and beyond, shout out to Roger, Paulino, Juan, Manuel, Santiago, Aldo, Kevin, and Carlos!! Yaneth and crew at La Veranda restaurant are great! Note: Men remember pants are required. Housekeeping kept our room spotless! Cesar, Christian, Leonardo and Entertainment staff provided things to do throughout the day like dance lessons, beach volleyball or bracelet making etc!! Managers Luis, Julieta, Antonio, Eugenio, are top notch! Going back in December!!

We came here for the first time twenty years ago, and have been back three more times. Things were getting tired the last time we were here three years ago, after getting numerous emails about how things were being updated we decided to go back. Trust me things are not better or upgraded in any way, this will be our last visit to this resort! Cozumel is gorgeous, safe and restful, but stay somewhere else. Things are literally falling apart. Food at times is scarce (especially after 6pm at the buffet). The staff is doing their best with what they have to work with, but it’s not the same resort as we experienced in the past! You can do better at another hotel.

We'll be fair and start with the positive. The beach is small but gorgeous. Excellent snorkeling right off the resort. The waiters were amazing. The hotel is dated. Which is understandable but the ac hardly works. The toilet seat was broken. Took 3 service calls and 2 days and still half fixed. The showers had black mold, water pressure is awful. We're still here waiting to see if our travel guy actually books an excursion or not via email. I've been to plenty of resorts across the Caribbean, this one is by far the worse. If youre on a budget and you dont care about ac when you sleep this maybe fine for you. Also theres only one restaurant other than buffet. You have to be in line daily by 7 am or youre not getting in. Pool water was cold almost no one at the swim up bar. But good thing is doesnt seem like they care if you swim late. Absolutely no night life at all. Zero entertainment. Main bar area shuts down at 11pm. Overall frustrating stay so far. Will not be back.

I have no understanding as to how this place is even rated at a 3.9. Extremely disappointing to say the least. Pretty much every picture shown online is inaccurate. There are "North rooms" and then there are the "South rooms", to which we acknowledged as the peasant side of the resort. We had to wait an hour and a half in line just to check in. Have you ever had a toilet with hot water, or better yet sat on one? Like the bowl is hot....and steamy!, and cracked all the way down the bowl, the handle is hot, even the floor immediately around the toilet was hot. The shower never stopped dripping. Our room was massive, but looked so empty by the limited furniture in the room. What's even better is the A/C couldn't keep up with the humidity so it just decided to not work. The bathroom counters look like stuff has been spilled all over them and never wiped up, but apparently thats just the material that was used that made perfect splash marks and perfectly round circles from a cup. Closet door was falling off. Tv had a terrible line through the middle and every channel had static. We were so exhausted from traveling the first night we didn't realize we were sleeping on a mattress from the 70's with a 3" foam topper. Bathroom shower is reminiscent of an early 90's school gym shower, or even a prison shower. Lights and plugs are very scarce. Pools were nasty. Food was terrible. Oceanview is blocked by trees. This place is clearly deteriorating and little is being done about it. The room service advertised doesn't exist, we were told because they were too slow. Birds in the dining area. Beaches were covered in rotting seaweed when we arrived. No pool bar as advertised. Overall, it's literally a disaster waiting to collapse.

While rooms were spacious, bathroom appeared gungy with a lot of soap scum on the shower doors. The house cleaners, never removed dirty dishes from our room. The pool and hot tub were cold and the sun only shines on the pool deck after 12:00 most days. The beach is rocky and the waves are too strong for swimming. Was a red flag all week. The food and alcohol were substandard, making it sometimes difficult to eat and only able to eat select items. I would not recommend this place at all.

Well this was our 3rd visit here and it will be our last. Food has gone down hill so much. We tried the fancy restaurant 3 times to give it a chance and on the 3rd visit the 6 of us walked out. If that is chicken I would be very surprised no way could you even cut it. Rooms are clean but very minimal, no little rug to get out of bed on no fridge not even a phone to call the front desk. Dont pay for a premium room it just means you are a floor or two above 5 and the view is almost exactly the same. Now food in the buffet depending on how many people are coming in that day the chances of getting a fresh fried egg are slim to non so you get gummy scrambled eggs mixed with what ever was left over from the day before including hot dog pieces. Desert was put out but with a ton of kids gone in 30 seconds and not replenished, we lived on salads which were quite good. They put last nights chicken (whatever it is) out the next morning for breakfast, sorry cant eat bbq chicken legs for breakfast. Some days they had lots of fruit some very little. The waiters and staff are lovely they try very hard but they dont have much to work with. It seemed certain people were favorites although we did tip at every meal. Not sure whats happened here not one bit of entertainment not even much music around the pool a few mornings 4 or 5 ladies tried dance fit but it wasnt great. The first year we were here maybe 2018 it was amazing, great food shows music but not too late. Second year a bit less but I figured it was because of Covid (2021) This was awful pool is freezing so was not able to get in once. This resort has gone from a 3.5 star to a 2 in my opinion. Wont be going back but feel sad for the way it used to be. The only redeeming feature of this trip was meeting some lovely friends from close by in Ontario.

First off, this is not a luxury resort, but the staff and beach make resort this a go to destination. You can walk down to the dive shop and they take a group out snorkelling at noon everyday for free. You just float with the current back to the beach in front of the resort. There is bar service on the beach and you can even order snacks like chips and guacamole or quesadillas to your beach chair! Bring your own bubbas. You can only get drinks in plastic cups, even at the lobby bar. The rooms are dated but clean and we liked the firm mattress and I loved the pillows. The air conditioning is loud but effective. Bring a pair of earplugs for sleeping, you'll be fine. We always had good water pressure and hot or warm water. The breakfasts at the buffet were delicious. Lunch and dinners were hit or miss but you can order from the menu and it was always really good. The ala carte was not high end but the food was very good. We cabbed into town and back once and the next time we walked there and back. There are some very good restaurants and a great museum to check out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Cozumelano and would definitely return. It is very good value for a fun vacation! We met so many great people during our stay!
