Staff extremely rude. Felt mistreated and on the receiving end of intimidation techniques. Room hot and unclean.

Well, my wife and I were in town to see a show at Royal Farms, a Mike away from this hotel. We checked in during a downpour. Someone left the window open in the first room we were given. We called the front desk, asked for another room, and closed the window. That made no difference, as rain continued to pour in through the top of the frame. We were given the room above, which was dry. However, the next morning we discovered the window pane from the bathroom window laying on the fire escape. In short, the staff is nice, nothing else is, so if you’re up for an adventure in a heroine filled neighborhood and don’t mind maybe or maybe not getting bedbugs (read other reviews), then this is the place for you!

"Get what you pay for"

6.0

The biggest pro of this place is the price. My room was dirt cheap and I didn't expect much for that price. I didn't get much, either. From a service standpoint, the daytime manager was very friendly and efficient. I'll address the night clerk later. The hotel is very old, no surprise there. No elevators, and apparently- no real air conditioning either. Rooms were a decent size and clean enough, though a little dark due to being lit only by floor/desk lamps. Again, for the price, this was all fair enough- I was in town for a party so when I got home from that- late at night, I found I couldn't get into the hotel again. It was 2am, and I (and another couple also trapped outside the hotel lobby) rang the doorbell and knocked many times, and even tried calling the hotel. Nothing worked. We finally made enough noise to alert some other hotel guests inside. When we got in, we discovered the hotel employee in the lobby, fast asleep. I had to reach across the desk to get the room key that I'd left there, but I really could have grabbed ANY key as there was no waking him up.

It was ok. A little concerned that the window didn't lock and it was a fire escape right next to it

I absolutely loved this hotel! It is like stepping back in time and getting a piece of Baltimore history. The location was great in a awesome and safe area of town! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the church across the street. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there again when I go to Boston.

"History nestled neatly in the city."

8.0

History nestled neatly in the city. If you appreciate culture and loves history then this will be the spot for you. With very minimal update this hotel is a throwback from history that’s closing quaint and Very well placed in the city. It was definitely clean and the staff was nice. The front is in a clear representation on the inside and if you don’t mind walking upstairs you will like the place.

"BEWARE SAFETY HAZARD!!!"

2.0

This is a somewhat run down walk up brownstone. I suppose some would consider it quaint as it is done up like a Victorian Bed and Breakfast. Like most older buildings of it's kind, there is no elevator, so be prepared for a long trip up the stairs. As I ventured to the fourth floor I had to go past the third floor, which smelled like skunk. My room was no-frills and clearly had not seen any routine maintenance in a while. One of the CFL lights above the sink was burned out. You would think that would be fairly obvious and fixed between rentals. My biggest complaint is a safety issue. The tub is extremely slick (like ice!) when wet. They provide a rubber mat with suction cups to go in the tub. Unfortunately it is way too small to effectively cover the tub area. At five in the morning when preparing for an extremely important day, I slipped in the tub. The end result was a bruised sacrum and coccyx, and a scraped up and bruised forearm. Upon checkout, I informed the clerk of my accident and why it happened. I also asked that the owner contact me the following day. That was six days ago and the owner has still not contacted me. Apparently they are not that concerned about their guests (or possible lawsuits!). You could not pay me to stay there again!

I wasn't expecting much, but the location and price were right. And the room met expectations, or even exceeded them--roomy, spotlessly clean but old and rough around the edges in what had been a beautiful, old building with lots of character. The problem was that when I arrived (after dark), no one was there--no one answered the (locked) door, ringing doorbell, telephone for about 15 minutes. Another guest was trying to get in too. Finally (after calling Expedia, staff of which also tried calling for me. Thank you!), a man showed up. let us in, checked us in (never apologized or anything) and then everything was fine.
