Booked to take my husband for lunch, arrived and we were seated in a different area to that which we had booked, but staff happily moved us. Menus passed to us and we were told none of the pizzas were available and the corn fed chicken were not available. Unfortunately both these items were what we had decided when we viewed the menu online. The waitress kindly offered to make us afternoon tea if we would like, however there were no menus and she was unsure of what was on the afternoon tea menu. I had had afternoon tea at the marine fairly recently and there were menus so you could see how much it was and what it consisted of. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. It was a shame as it was supposed to be my husband's birthday treat. I think if you are planning to spend around £100 on a lunch for two it would be nice if there were all the options available and perhaps some specials plus menus for the afternoon tea. In addition we were not informed of the soup of the day. The tables in the area we were first seated in seemed rather cheap and not of a quality I would have expected.

Reception staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and made a great first impression. Breakfast was really good too.

There was nothing we disliked

On arrival greeted and staff explained everything. Room was on third floor which during day could become warm, well equipped, iron, fan, small heater. A bit chinzy but comfortable, facilities tidy and unusually bright, which they should be, great shower. Dinner at the Lawn we mixed the bar and restaurant mains, good food, both Richard and Blythe great. In morning breakfast plenty of options, but service was slow, three times had to ask for more tea, it was empty but staff seemed keen to set up tables, a bit of a downer. Have stayed elsewhere with them, not the best but reasonable

Lovely setting and very handy for my trip visiting family

Far, far too hot. Turned off the towel rail and radiator, kept the window open at all times but still far too hot through out the hotel. This is an on going problem I would say with The Marine, having stayed many times and in different seasons over the years. I’m aware it’s an old building and that it takes a while for the heating to heat up and cool down, but I can honestly say, even in winter, I have never found it cold or even remotely cool.

Lovely place for coffee but please educate staff as to conditions of loyalty card for locals. We paid full price rather than argue but it was disappointing that no one responded to a pleasant note highlighting that it can be an issue.

The location, view, breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, easy free parking

Room was exceptionally hot, window difficult to open.
