"Perfect intimate resort on the bay "

10.0

Love the location, convenience and intimacy of this beach resort. Really enjoyed the top notch experience - our room had a gorgeous balcony, coffee maker, steamer for my vacation outfits, and excellent bellmen staff. We received a complimentary glass of champagne as it was our honeymoon and it was the small touches that made all the difference.

"EXTRA CHARGES/HOMELESS SNEAKING IN THE KIDS POOL"

4.0

There was a homeless woman who snuck into the pool & asked my child to swim down the slide with her, I had to get a pool attendant to have her removed. I also had extra charges on my debit card that was not mentioned at the time of check out so I have to deal with customer service. Overall, a 2 day stay cost us $1,650 & that’s before dining with our family of 4! After speaking to customer service I was told due to technical difficulties the cannot give me a reference number even for a complaint about the extra $200 charge on my card, so I will have to follow up if not contacted within 48 hours about it. What was supposed to be an $1100 stay for 2 nights, turned into $1500 with additional charges, self parking & valet for one night.

The fact that it has a beach attached was perfect. As well as restaurants and shops within walking distance. The whole place was well maintained and the staff was always very friendly.

Hotel grounds are stunning, pool is clean and gorgeous, right on the beach so you can go swimming in the ocean, food is tasty but pricey. There are nearby eateries that you can walk to if you like, staff was kind and accommodating. I highly recommend the Royal Sonesta Kaua’i and would definitely stay there again

The hotel was great but the way they charge your stay is seriously annoying. Booked with one card and when arrived asked to disregard that card for another. Sure no problem is what they said. They ended up keeping both cards and charging us double. Not sure what was so hard about that request but the family with us had the same issue. Seem a little scattered at the front desk.

"Nickel and dimed in a dingy hotel with a lousy beach"

4.0

This hotel is cheaper than most and I recognized the name and assumed it would be a good experience. It was not. The beach is tiny in a very small cove, half of which is industrial with homeless people camped out in their cars. They told me I’d be on the “18th floor” but the hotel goes from floor 1 directly to 16 for no apparent reason whatsoever. I went to have breakfast and bought a cup of coffee, and was then charged $8 for black drip coffee— quality was worse than Folgers, and 9 dollars for half a papaya I grabbed from a communal fridge. We never ate at the resort again. Parking is horrible with people fighting each other for spots, often with nothing left at night despite paying $30/day. To say there were surprise charges and fees everywhere is an understatement. The hotel it self was aging, the room smelled like mildew, and there is of course the rooster alarm clock that’s probably more of a Kaua’i issue than a Sonesta one but having one of those walk outside your window at 6:30 am didn’t help.
