"Truly Beautiful Hotel"

8.0

The hotel is really lovely, the rooms are beautiful and the furniture/touches feel high quality. It's a NICE hotel. It's the kind of hotel where you call the front desk and ask for them to deliver a steamer, and they do it in a timely fashion (appreciated). What was frustrating was the Chase Saphire Perks. We booked through our credit card. And many of the perks associated with that, weren't available. That may sound petty, but we specifically went through our credit card for guaranteed early check in, only to be given the run around (call day of! call past 12! sorry it's not available!). On that front, I wish we would have just used the wedding discount code and not spent double the equivalent in points. Leaving this review so someone else doesn't make that mistake. For a super nice hotel, the also nikel and dime you. An extra $20 charge for a small SUV car for valet, and stuff like that. Seems unnecessary when valet is already $50/night in Detroit?? Overall, at least as of today, it is without a doubt the nicest hotel in Detroit. I don't think you'd be disappointed staying there.

"The best ever!"

10.0

One of the best stays at any hotel Iโ€™ve been to. Valet was smooth and easy. Front desk was welcoming and offered champagne. Room was beautiful and clean. Bed had an actual comforter. Room service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious. I almost donโ€™t want to share this review because then the Shinola might book up faster ha! But these folks deserve a shout out, Iโ€™ll be back 100% for sure.

"Post marathon stay"

10.0

Excellent customer service from the team Shinola, especially Bri, Sy and Bryan. We finished the DFP Marathon wet and dirty from the rain and wind. Fortunately, our room was ready earlier than check in and we were so appreciative to be able to shower. The valet team were excellent as well. The room was cozy but very comfortable and quiet. The upstairs sports lounge area had limited drink selections but were reasonably priced. The waitress was also accommodating since we screwed up our drinks. Chatted with friendly happy people. Overall, great experience at Shinola, making its expensive price worthwhile, especially after a tiring race.

"Boutique Beauty"

10.0

The term boutique can mean one of two things, excellence or something not quite good enough thatโ€™s pretending. This hotel in every regard is excellent and exactly what a boutique hotel should aspire to be.

"Four Seasons price; Motel service"

4.0

I waited a week to write this review. TLDR: horrible service for 600/night. Loud. Would not recommend. Honestly, we would rather stay at the Book Cadillac or just wait for the Edition prior to returning to Detroit. Actively telling people to avoid this place. We booked via Amex FHR for 3 nights, at about 600/night. At check-in, the person checking us in, Leonard, did not provide any information about the FHR benefits. We had to ask him as we headed up to our room, and were unceremoniously handed an envelope, without any further information. Having just come from the Peninsula in Chicago, the contrast could not have been starker. Our first night was uneventful, albeit loud. We were on the top floor, but street noise was resonant. Husband lived across the street for 6 years, and we know Woodward can get loud, but this was extreme. The next day, we used the gym. One machine was broken; the water machine had no cups, but pretty new equipment! We were out of the room all day, returning around 4pm. Our room still hadnโ€™t been serviced, and we had to request it to be serviced before going out again. 600/night, We were hoping to lounge/enjoy the room, but apparently not an option. The following day, we were out until 4pm, again. Came back, the room once again was not serviced. We called downstairs, and Leonard assured us that it would be ASAP. Came back at 6pm, still not serviced. A note was left stating that because our sweatshirts (two hoodies) were on the bed, nothing could be touched! We moved our sweatshirts, and went down to ask them to service everything again. Leonard told us a manager would contact us. We came back at 7pm and the room had still not been serviced. Spoke to the night manager, Tanya, who was very nice. She told us there would be follow up. Got back upstairs at around 7:30pm. Bed was now finally made, but all toiletries had been placed in the bathroom drawers! We have never experienced this in all our years of travel around the world. We were told by housekeep that it was the โ€œThe Shinola wayโ€, although, it was not done that way the nights prior. We continued on our vacation and missed a call from the manager, Josh, the following day. Called him back this week (a week after checkout). The first day, the phone just rang. The second day, we left a message. Third time today, he told me heโ€™d call me back. Still waiting on that. โ€œCoolโ€ hotel, unless you actually care about the service. Imagine when the Edition opens up in a year or two. How will this place compete!
