The smell of weed from a nearby bedroom and no lift to upstairs

We had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean. Only a couple of issues. They charge £15 a night for the dog. But they can’t go in the restaurant. So I thought that was a bit steep. The hotel needs a little TLC. It’s just looking a little tired

Very friendly staff. Bed very comfortable. Public spaces very clean and comfortable.

Bathrooms need an update, looking a bit tired.

There is a smell the minutes you step into reception. Was greeted by a lovely young girl who was professional, polite and greetings with a smile. Our room was on the next floor up no lift. No offer of assistance to help with bags. But me and my grandson managed when we go to the room. Wow! I can't see how this can be rated a four-star hotel two star to push dirty smelly moldy patches on carpet where we actually couldn't recognize what they were chipped furniture moldy floors in bathroom cigarette Burns in the sink net curtains that probably haven't seen a wash since the day they went up so I found reception. She told us to come down and she sought a different room. I asked her to check the rooms to make sure that they were better than the ones that was given. My grandson and I were fitted drink. He partake in an apple juice. Okay, sometime later was given a key to a room that had no grade cuz I'd only booked do single bedded room. So we now had a double bed and a pull out bed sette. We settled with this room even though that had a very weird smell and the room that we walked past to get to it had a very pungent smell of weed. There was a few marks on the carpets. It had a feisty dampy nasty smell that lingered till the following day but at that point I'd had enough sleep wasn't the best. We were cold and the heater in the room didn't work and for that I didn't contact reception because I just had enough. We went to breakfast that morning and one member of the three staff was pleasant but again wouldn't class four star . The cook breakfast was nice A table of our cooked breakfast and finished plates while we were drinking our juice and having the croissants was still on the table an hour after we'd finished and was only cleared as we were leaving. Definitely not full style breakfast and definitely not a four-star service. We packed a car up, popped the key in and drove right away from there. I would never stay in this hotel again. They're false advertising of the pictures they put on their site to what their rooms actually look like. Smell like is beggars. Believe how they get away with it. I do not know how they got their four-star rating, but it is not a four-star establishment so lower your expectations if you've booked this place or if you're happy to slum it in fouth. I did have a conversation with the receptionist who bless her. Tried her hardest to get a twin room but apparently they were fully booked and all the twin rooms she had seen weren't much better. So that room that we were given was the best of what she had. Well she tried. We feel feel deflated dirty, tired unsatisfied for major chain. This has flaws

Location was great.

The hotel is in desperate need of updating or at least have a planned maintenance programme. Carpet with several stains and the room just in need of some updating.
