Price, breakfast buffet, ease of check in/out

Housekeeping trying to do the rounds before the check out time, had me asking if I'd misread something

The were some positives. The second room i was given was nice, the rooms do get very hot without aircon but they provided a fan. The location and facilities were great. I had a ground floor room as requested. The staff are friendly. The bar staff were really great and gave me one of their spoons when hotel ran out of the wooden ones they leave in the room for tea/coffee. The hotel gave me a toothbrush as I had forgot mine. The location and surroundings were lovely. The hotel is quiet and peaceful during the night. The beds and pillows are comfortable.

I had a lovely stay and brilliant service during my first stay at this hotel a month ago. They even gave me an upgraded, newer ground floor room to accommodate my disability as all the double rooms on the ground floor were booked up. This stay of 3 nights didn’t live up to the same standard unfortunately. I checked in on Friday. when I arrived at my room I noticed the walls and carpet didn’t look the cleanest and there was a bit of a smell likely due to the stuffiness. It was an older more dated room than during my first stay and told myself it was probably just overdue an update rather than it being an issue of not being cleaned but there did seem to be a drop in quality when it came to cleanliness. Then when I turned on the lights to make some tea I noticed a very thick layer of dust across that counter, hairdryer, mugs and kettle. Dusty to the point of them being unusable. The plug next to the bed also wasn’t working. Thankfully, after phoning reception they moved me to another room nearby. Due to it being very busy they forgot to send someone to help me move and give me a new key but I did see a member of staff in the hall who quickly let me in to the new room with his and helped with my bags. The new room was clean, smelt fresher even though it was still stuffy and a clear difference to the previous room. On Saturday I did not require a room clean but when I left my room on Sunday afternoon (I was working during the morning) the cleaner was two doors down and I assumed the room would be cleaned like it was during my previous stay, in which I also left the room later in the day, as the bin was full and I’d run out of a few things. When I got back the cleaners were gone but they hadn’t been in my room. I went to reception around 4pm to tell them my room hadn’t been cleaned and asked them if someone could just empty my bin as it was full after two days and they said someone would come and do it but no one did.

Bar was very open and inviting as part of the main reception, Breakfast was substantial and staff very pleasant.

Rooms were very basic and I had to ask to be moved as my room was mouldy and smelt damp. The room was not what you'd expect from a hotel of this type. The rooms I saw were in need of a complete update and overhaul. Disappointed.
