Though our room was a bit dated it was clean with all the amenities needed and even turn down service (lovely), use your chase Sapphire and thank me later… They received 5 stars for quality of service, cleanliness, exceptional food and beverage. What appears to be a family run hotel, is first rate care in a sea of mediocre city hotels with no personal attention to details. It has a wonderful French meets India flavor - so wonderfully unique. Exceptional!

This stay was one of 3 locations I stayed on this trip to San Francisco, and this hotel was my least favorite and is overrated. The location of the Taj is very convenient to where everything is, it's easily accessible to the iconic trolleys. The shopping at Union Square and everything in between, the restaurant downstairs is also very good for breakfast and dinner. The bar is nice, but it can get very loud at times. Overall, the hotel's amenities are lacking. I think the room tends to be on the smaller side, and it's quite awkwardly placed. At times, the bed is comfortable, and the staff is helpful, but I would say the hotel earns more points for convenience than for the actual room. The $35 amenities included newspaper and wifi, which is very disrespectful when other places are offering trolley tickets, food & beverage credits, and even champagne during Happy hour at one hotel, and the other offered champagne at check-in. This hotel did not meet American Express FINE HOTELS + RESORTS standards that I'm used to.
