DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tallahassee

Stayed here 1 night on way to Orlando. Did the same 4 years ago and found the hotel quirky but interesting and a good value. Something has changed or we stayed on a very “off” night. Card key malfunctioned on check-in, even master key malfunctioned, had a room change and card key still malfunctioned. Finally had 1 working card key to share among 4 people. Room furnishings in general dated and damaged (photos). Wall outlets questionable, afraid to use outlet next to bed after trying to plug in device and seeing that the electrical box was moving. Heating system malfunctioned. Breakfast buffet overpriced for limited selection of poor to average quality food, and broken juice machine (went to pantry by front desk for juice and was not charged for the bottled juice). Hotel comp’d breakfast due to check-in issues but waitress presented bill for 22% gratuity ($10). We had planned to tip anyway (she did her job and was pleasant) but were taken aback by the process. No valet on duty. On the positive side, staff were very sweet and helpful but they don’t have the power to resolve these kinds of issues. Offered to refund the charge for the stay but we had used an AMEX stay benefit for most of the charge and didn’t have the time or tolerance to even attempt to undo that. Cleanliness was good, garage parking available (seemed high at $30 plus per night), but we chose ease of parking in the metered spots along the street in front since only staying one night. As noted in other reviews, no card key required for elevator access plus dimly lit hallways (at least on the 7th floor) which made us uncomfortable from a security perspective. We are easy going travelers with grown children. If we had little ones this would have been a disaster. We will not be returning.

The location was nice. I loved the hotel decor throughout the lobby.

The shower didn’t appear to be clean. The hotel room was hot throughout the night eventhough the thermostat was set. It was not comfortable sleeping during the night. I also woke up with bumps on my back that itched really. I believe the bed may have had bed bugs. I won’t be stating at that location anymore.

Was given a handicap room and room was unkept and dirty. The toilet could not flush, the light was out. House keeper was very accommodating. The lady who extended my stay at the front desk was excellent. Will be back hoping to get a better room.

Customer service was excellent. Particularly Angel was very good and so was Ms. Gloria. The manager Sonora solved the reservation problem quickly and efficiently.

Ms. Gloria checked me in and she was very pleasant. The paint in the bathroom was peeling and as soon as I stepped outside my room, I saw paint peeling in the hallway. I had the breakfast buffet; everything was tasty but the scrambled eggs were cold and look petrified. The cook finally brought a fresh pan out and I advised him to check the steam table because the eggs were cold. He replied, I turned it down so that the eggs wouldn't dry out. Buffets need to be attended to e.g., routinely stirring the eggs and/or other food to ensure that they are properly heated. No one wants to spend their money on cold eggs. I had a light dinner at the hotel because I had a wonderful lunch at a nearby restaurant. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. It was very small not at all an entree salad as I had expected. As I was eating the salad, I saw something shiny in it and it was a piece of clear plastic. I can only guess that someone in the kitchen manually opened the salad mix bag instead of cutting it open. I brought it to my server's attention. I checked out early in the morning to catch an early flight. Upon arriving in the lobby, there were two men sleeping in the lobby, which was quite unsettling. You don't expect to find folks sleeping in the lobby at 4am. I went to the other side of the lobby while I waited on my Uber. The Front Desk person said something to one of the men and he left the hotel. He let the other guy remain sleeping in the lobby. This is a security issue. There were no cookies when I checked in late at night and none after breakfast the next day. I finally got a cookie upon returning to the hotel in the evening and it's because the clerk ask the chef to make some more. At least the cookies are still great, if you can get one.

Front desk was so happy and friendly. Rooms were very clean. Smelled great. Great view of tallahassee.
