GRAND BASE Hakata

We stayed in the first floor room. It was spacious, modern and clean. The hotel (it’s not actually a hotel, more of a AirBnB where the host remains offsite), is between the train station and Hakata ferry terminal, so if you’re taking the ferry to Busan it’s a good location, but a bit removed from the downtown.

The check-in is awkward. First, you have to type in on a keypad to gain entrance, then walk to a desk with an IPad where you finish checking in and paying the local room tax while being filmed. Then you get a code key to enter the room. Inside the room there’s an iPad in the wall giving you house rules and instructions on how to use everything like the air conditioner, the water heater, how to use the bathtubs, how to use the TV, etc. nothing comes easy with this place, and then the IPad in the wall doesn’t go to sleep, it remains on glowing constantly in the room facing the beds, so it’s annoying. Personally, I only stayed here because the Sumo tournament was in town and all of the rooms were booked, but if I stayed in Fukuoka again, I’d probably give this place a pass and stay in a real hotel.

This is NOT a place for you if hygiene is important!! The hygiene is not up to standard and not for Japan. It feels the management have tried to cut operation costs and hygiene has been sacrificed. Bad: - Bins are only emptied at the end of your stay attracting crockaches. In summer rubbish begin to smell if you had food. This does not work well with a hotel offering a full functioning kitchen (as people would be cooking) - We were given one roll of toilet paper for a four night stay for a four bedder. We were told we have to buy more toilet paper ourselves. - We found and killed several crockaches in the bathroom and the living room. - The bathroom ceiling fan and curtain rod and curtain had mold on it. - Toilet paper holder was broken, unsure of intentions to fix . - A towel had yellow spots on it Good: Quiet street, can sleep well. Aircon is good. Water pressure is good Management responded quickly to our request and sent someone to clean the bathroom the next day. The shower curtain was changed. However that is only a temporary fix. I think management should invest in doing a deep clean of the room before leasing out to the next customer.

Needed to stay 1 night close to the airport. Comfy room with easy access. Very close to popular restaurants and the hotel was so helpful to us and told us about a yummy restaurant.

I wish some things were labeled in English for guests. Like shower panel. The shower head had a small leak and caused the water to spray out or shower.

Location is good. Walking distance to bus station and the famous tax free B gates. Also close to Ichiran Ramen main building.

First of all, the entrance of the hotel is covered by many plants and has no lights. Luckily we arrive before sunset and still managed to see the name on the wall which is already blocked by the plants. At night when we go back, we have to switch on our torchlight to be able to enter the door code which is quite dangerous as we have small kids and old people in our family. The room setup is not as detail and considerate as other Grand Base that I stayed (Nagasaki, Beppu). We booked the room for 7 pax, and there is only one basin with very small space for us to move around. We stayed for 5 nights and hoping that we could use the washing machine for some laundry, but the washing machine is not functional. I tried to use, and water leaking out from the pipe. Aircon is very loud and noisy. Bathroom with bath tub but not useful as there is not water tap to fill the bath tub with water. Bed are quite soft but I understand this is more relevant to individual so I do not blame this to the hotel.

I like that it's big. It's the biggest space we've had in all our trips in Japan. The kitchen is spacious and complete. The toilet is good separate from the bathroom. The shower is bigger than most. There is also a separate lavatory beside the washing machine. The place is not in the busy area which is good. It's like we're living like a local. We have to take a short walk around 10 mins going to the station and major establishments. You see Nakasu area is a party place area so the nightlife here is good. Convenience stores are a 1 minute walk. Don Quijote is about 10 min walk. Airconditioner is also working well. I also like thay there is an elevator and the check in process is automated. This is value for money.

Well. I guess that we had a hard time getting in the door. We arrived at 9:50pm since immigration took a long time. They say that we are going to have a hard time getting in if we arrive beyond 10pm. We tried following the directions said on the email and on the app. We couldnt contact the hotel since we dont have a local phone. So we stayed outside the door for like 30 mins trying to figure out how to open it. Anyway, my sister finally got to open it. You have to slowly and eagerly press the buttons, not very fast. Since it's laggy. After that, the checkin process is all good.

Comfy beds and bedding, Good sized room, Nice hot shower Great heating All the amenities in the kitchenette It was clean and comfortable

Hooks are needed in the bathroom to hang up towels or more towel racks, It would have been great to have some included coffee sachets. Bathroom sink drain appeared to be blocked Our room was right in the hallway of the entrance we could hear people talking and checking in and coming and going. And we were right at the front of the property so heard all the early street noise of garbage trucks

Clean room, got microwave inside. Quite place.

No washing machine and iron.
