Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort

The standout feature of this property is undoubtedly its location. To be honest, I likely wouldn’t have chosen this hotel if it weren’t for its beachfront setting. The rooms are in serious need of renovation. While the size was adequate and the balcony was a nice touch, the décor and fixtures felt outdated, and there was a noticeable mildew smell. Despite setting the A/C to the lowest temperature, the room remained a bit humid for my preference. The lobby, which features an aquarium, had a strong fishy odor—an interesting but somewhat unpleasant quirk. During our stay, only one restaurant was open, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with both à la carte and buffet options. Fortunately, the food was actually quite decent. One of the biggest highlights of the hotel was the beach activities. Guests have the option to purchase a pass for a one-time fee of 4,000 yen per person, which grants unlimited access to a variety of amenities. This includes kayak and water bike rentals, zip line access, beach chairs with umbrellas, indoor pool entry, and more. This added a great value to the stay and made the beachfront experience even more enjoyable. I also booked a spa treatment during my stay and had a fantastic 90-minute massage and facial for 20,000 yen (about $135 USD). It was a wonderful experience and definitely worth it. While the hotel had its quirks, it also offered some great features that made the stay enjoyable.

No air conditioning in the room. So hot I couldn’t sleep all night. Everything was a separate charge and way more expensive than what you get for your money. Food was not good. I wish I had stayed home

We’re family of 5, with 3 young adults, planned to dive, so we chose to stay at this resort. We had 2 rooms, and it was spacious with 3 comfortable, and not too narrow, beds in each room. The location was close to the diving spot, the Blue cave. We loved the fact that the hotel had private beach and pool area with lots of facilities. What we didn’t expect is the amount of guests with small children. It looked like the hotel focused so much on that customer group, that it felt wrong for us to stay there. The service at the restaurant was lacking. We had to wait a long time before being serviced, especially with the a la carte option. The best would be the buffet. What is important for us after diving, is to dine at the hotel, and relax afterwards, but we had to dine outside the hotel. Otherwise, the service was top notch. The hot spring is not huge, but it’s high standard. My recommendation would be, if you don’t have any small children, it would be wise to choose another place. They were allowing children to play the piano, so the trip was rather stressful than relaxing.

A very disappointing experience by a Sheraton brand resort, for the following reasons: 1. The AC in both rooms we booked are not working. Even when set to 18 deg, we have had to open the balcony windows to ventilate the room. Stuffy and difficult to sleep. 2. The TV entertainment system is very outdated, with only one English news channel and no movie channels. The TV is an old desktop desk, not the smart TV that many equivalent class hotels are already offering. 3. The quality of the food at the buffet breakfast is mediocre. The quality of the hotel is not worth the price it charges. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Okinawa.

My family visited came to Okinawa Dec 2024 and chose to have a stay here at the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort with my Marriott Bonvoy elite status points. Even thought the resort is starting to show its age a little, the overall resort is super nice with an access to a private, beautiful beach. On the beach there are tons of summer sport activities that you can try out for a fee, such as: the Mega Zipline, snorkeling tour, banana boat, sunset cruise, etc. However since we went in December, some of these activities were not available, so we ended up just doing the zip line only. Location wise, it's in the middle of the island so not too far from the airport and not too far from the aquarium. Across the street there is a place where you can by Ryukyu glassware. If you walk out the main entrance and go to the right, there will be a lot of local eateries about .5 miles or so. Front desk service was nice, as they recognized my Marriott Titanium status and gave us a room upgrade of an Ocean View, High Floor, Maisonette Guest Room with an upstairs loft. As you walk off from the front desk, behind the counter you see a group of elementary school aged kids greeting us. I thought it may have been training for them. ^^ Also there is a unique feature of the hotel is a sizable pond in the lobby where all manner of fish/sea life that will memorize both kids and adults alike. There were lion fishes, puffer fishes, stone fishes, sting rays and a whole slew of others. Went up to our floor with the fast elevator, and into our room and it was huge, not just Japanese standard, but in general. If you walk out the patio, you can see a beautiful view of the beach. Sheets were clean and crisp. The bathroom had a modern hand shower with a separate rain shower, next to a tub. The Sunset Lounge was available for guests of status, but catered towards the western palate. Mostly of appetizers and various drinks, which includes the Okinawa brand, Orion Beer. The breakfast was Buffet Style, serving both Japanese and western palate. They also include some traditional Okinawan cuisine for breakfast such as Okinawa soba, and more. It was quite busy with guests from all parts of Asia, even in the low season when we were there. They have plenty of ware in the gift shop for you to bring back some Okinawan souvenirs such as traditional sweets/snacks and the local liquor, Awamori. There is also an Onsen (温泉), or hot spring bath available in another building. Since a lot of Marriott properties does not have an Onsen it was definitely a plus. However, being that it was winter and after you warm up in the Onsen, if you walk back to the hotel, it defeats the purpose of getting warm though. Overall it was a great experience but there may be room for some improvement. Nitpick stuff such as updating some rooms to be more modern. Biggest gripe was (and not totally fault of the hotel) was that even at the slow season, there were SO MANY people at breakfast that were cutting in line, and generally causing a mess and nuisance. Aside from that, if I could give 4.5 points I would, but since I can’t, I’ll give it a 4.
