Mama Tia Family Homestay

Cozy and welcoming homestay with a local family, Tia. Highly recommended for a multi-day stay in the Tana Toraja area. They serve great breakfasts, and Resinta can also prepare excellent lunches or dinners (with generous portions). Drinking water, hot water, coffee, tea, and laundry service are available. Jacob and his son Yansen speak English and are very helpful. Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and each room has a fan. Bathrooms and showers are clean and have hot water. Scooter rental is available for 100K per day. Thanks to Jacob, we had the opportunity to attend a local funeral ceremony. Jacob is generally very helpful and willing to assist with almost anything—don’t hesitate to ask him.

Fortunately, Jacob or his son responds quickly via WhatsApp. The homestay was difficult to find, so better signage would be helpful. Please note, the accommodation is a bit further from town, so we recommend renting a scooter or using the local minibus services ("bemo").

Not walking distance to town but lovely rural setting

Very clean. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Knowledgeable host. Yakob was an amazing host and guide and I had 4 eventful and beautiful days in toraja. We saw more than I expected I would be able to and each morning started with a delicious breakfast.

Yan(sen) and his father Jacob are absolute treasures. They are fun, interested and knowledgable! We were guided by Yan for 3 days and could ask him anything we wanted to know. They can arrange for a lot of different activities such as cooking, trekking and ofcourse visiting the funeral ceremonies. Thank you Yan and your family for this amazing stay 🙏🏼 PS: the rooms are clean and simple. The shared bathrooms are cleaned often.

Very friendly staff and very helpful in organizing trips. Both the owner Jaboc and his son Jenzen are good guides and speak english very well. They make suggestions for what to see and what to do and they also arrange to see a Toraja funeral that are happening in the area. Jacob guided us to the local traditional market where bulls, other stock and a lot of other things are being sold. We also did a beautiful hike trhough the mountains nearby to a nice waterfall and hiked through the woods and rice fields. Breakfast and dinner are good and very tasteful.

The homestay is located a bit outside of Rantepoa which makes it a very quiet and nice area which is good but less attractive if you want to explore Rantepoa in the evening. There are hardly any sidewalks so only good option is to rent a scooter and go to the center that way.

Access by bike can be a bit challenging, and there isn’t a clear sign outside. The shared bathroom detail wasn’t very prominent when booking, but it turned out fine, likely because only four rooms share the two bathrooms
