Surrounded by nature, with a fish pond next to the seating area and lovely views from the breakfast bar on the balcony on the first floor - a little gem!! Strategically located close to many sites of interest, providing yummi home-cooked meals, all super affordable... What more could one ask for?! Both Jacob and his son Yansen are wonderful guides. Knowledgeable with an excellent command of English, they make sure one really gets to know the fascinating local culture. But the best part was the vibe. At no other place I stayed did I meet so many interesting people. Adventurers, long-term travelers, YouTubers... Such an exciting mix and sooo many captivating conversations!!😍 Surely not a coincidence, they all felt attracted to this particular homestay😊 If lucky to revisit Toraja in the future, I am definitely staying at the same place❤ You should, too😁 Just book early as the number of rooms is limited.

No grievances at all.

"Great starting point for your Tana Toraja experience"

10.0

This homestay was very cozy, a good place to meet other travellers, share a guide and share the experiences of the day. The food was excellent with big portions and lots of veggies. Don't forget that if Mama Tia is full, you can also ask about Pappa Tia (the place downstairs). Ask Jacob!

"Good homestay, helpful owner, affordable price."

10.0

Mama Tia is the excellent homestay and suitable for whom want to connect with locals and nature. It's a bit far from downtown but it's not a problem. The owner is an acknowlegable local guide who can suggest and manage to explore Toraja and help you to book your next trip.

The entrance is quite rough. Be caution to walk or ride a motorbike in-out the homestay.

Even though the facilities are not enough, the family is superb. They are super helpful and also provide guidence for the ceremonies. You are going to be a guest in their house so this experience is going to be extra ordinary for you. Not for those who want ultra comfort and luxury. But this is for the family experience...

You have everything solved if you go to Mama Tia. Comfortable rooms, hot water, amazing food, beer, motorbike rent, and guides that arrange all the visits for you, funerals, rituals, caves, villages, trekkings. The staff is really kind!

You don't want to leave.

"Good stay!"

8.0

Although I was overpriced for a one day guide booked through the hostel, and dropped the next day by the same guide for a bigger group. Also the first two bikes that I booked through the hostel were very bad, but then replaced by a good one the next day. Apart from this, this hostel is very good! The bed was so comfortable, it was quiet at night, there are good spots to chill and enjoy the view of the nature around, and the food available for lunch and dinner is delicious (tempeh available for vegetarians). Breakfast is also very good! I recommend this place

"The best hosts in town"

10.0

Yamsen, Yacob, and the rest of the family are wonderful hosts. They are very knowledgeable about Torajan culture and are always excited to share this information with you. They can also help arrange tours (both Yamsen and Yacob are guides), as well as help organise transportation to your next destination. The guesthouse is located just outside the village, meaning you can relax outside without hearing too much traffic noise. Scooters are available for a very reasonable price (I would recommend renting one and touring through the area). You can also order food at the homestay, which was always fresh and tasty. I would recommend trying Pa' Piong as you are invited to see how this traditional Torajan dish is made (it was also delicious!). Lastly, the wifi was excellent.

Sometimes, the showers were cold.
