Yacob and his Family take really good care of their guests . Yacob is well connected in the area and took us to several ceremonies, caves and other interesting places . The food which was freshly cooked was tasty and fresh. I would recommend the homestay to my friends .The rooms were simple and provided everything you need . Hot shower and cold beer .

Wonderful homestay, run by a lovely family. Highly recommend their (small-group) English-guided tours to the funerals (and landscape), which are offered for a very, very reasonable price and offer such a good explanation of the Toraja culture. Must-do when you're staying here. Costs can be shared with other guests of the homestay. Host Yannes is a great source of information and offers pick-up and drop-off at the bus stop from Makassar for free. The terrace at the homestay is a great spot to meet other travellers, they have a nice menu of food and drinks and rooms/bathrooms are excellent. The place to stay in Rantepao! Homestay Papa Tia is run by same family.

Nothing. Absolutely great place to stay. Just to be aware of: the homestay is a bit outside the centre of Rantepao, so you'll need a motorbike in case you want to go out for dinner (but homestay provides a nice menu). You'll also need one for their tours. Ask about the costs upfront.

The home stay was a little out of town which we loved as it meant the place was surrounded by nature with lovely views over the rice paddies. The host and his family made sure we were extremely well looked after during the whole stay. Breakfast was delicious, as were the dinners we had there. One night they made a traditional torajan dish cooked inside bamboo which was amazing and interesting to see how it was cooked. It was a relaxed vibe with the other travellers also. We did 3 days of guided tours with Yacob which were great (funeral ceremony, mountain hike, buffalo market etc).

Nothing we didn’t like but a mosquito net in the room could have been handy.

Super cozy place with great food options also for vegetarians! Both Jacobi and Yansen are incredible hosts and guides that were able to explain to us a lot about the Torajan culture and traditions.

Just brilliant. Clean big room, nice terrace with a nice view to talk to other travellers and share stories, delicious food served by the Homestay. Highly recommend doing a tour from the Homestay too, Yansen was our guide and he was amazing. We felt we got to experience a more authentic time with him, and felt welcomed into the funeral ceremonies. He explained everything so well and always had a huge smile on his face! He English was great and he had in-depth knowledge of the traditions. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and it is an experience we will talk about the rest of our lives. Thank you so much!!

This is the best homestay ever! Yansen and his family already started taking care of us before we even got there. Everybody was super nice and giving good tips (funeral ceremonies, further transport, where to buy postcards;)…). They also provide laundry service and very very good food! We came as strangers and it felt like we left as a part of the family!

I love this homestead and definitely plan to come back to see the ceremony in August! Together with Jansen, we attended four different funerals and visited all the days to get a complete picture of this process. We also traveled with him to different places (the work of a guide today is 600 000rph for a group of up to 3 people, and this is for the whole day, i.e. 8 hours minimum, i.e. the price is quite pleasant) and Jansen is the best guide you can only dream of. Jansen knows all about the traditions and history of this place, while he has good and understandable English. The homestay is wonderful. I spent almost a week here and felt at home. The rooms are very clean, smells good and beautiful. There is a good fan and it is quite comfortable to sleep with the window open. Also, the room has really good lighting and a sufficient number of outlets. The shared bathrooms are clean and, although I usually prefer a private bathroom, these were quite comfortable to use. Please note that there is a good hot shower on the ground floor, on the first floor there is a little old equipment that can work intermittently - hence in other reviews there are complaints about the lack of hot water. For me, this was not a problem, because it takes a couple of seconds to go down to the shower on the ground floor. A pleasant surprise was the breakfast, which included the price! I'm used to it being often just a cupcake or fried bananas in Indonesia. But here they serve toast or pancakes, fruit and avocado and eggs. You can also have lunch or dinner by ordering food from the menu at a good price - everything is very tasty. Hot coffee, tea and drinking water are always available for free. The terrace offers a beautiful view of the mountains and fields and it's just nice to relax here. The Internet was working smoothly and there was enough of it to work. Jansen and his family are wonderful people and thanks to them, I was very much imbued with the life and atmosphere in Toraja.
