Sonesta Maho Beach All Inclusive Resort Casino & Spa

Our family of 4 stayed at the Sonesta Maho Bay, during spring break. We were greeted warmly and expeditiously. Told to grab some food before the restaurant closed to prepare for dinner. Had to call down to have our bags brought up. They said, they would take them up while we ate, that didn’t happen. We ventured out often to explore and eat locally. The kids did the kiddie pools, it was very small, and a little skeevy for my liking. Just sitting and watching them, felt gross. The chairs were dirty, I didn’t even go to the pool bar. The food was ok, nothing to get excited about. There was lots of variety, different restaurants, limited hrs. Cafe, pizza station and burger spots, def held us down between restaurant closings. Our room was a corner garden view. Hated it. Couldn’t open our blinds due to privacy being seen from two different directions and if we chose to go out on the balcony to talk to everyone on the floor, literally, our neighbors were chain smokers. Between the smoke that was seeping into our rooms, the moldy musty smell, the hair in the shower, the used razor under the bed that didn’t belong to us, I was never able to get comfortable there and felt worse for my kids. My daughter’s asthma kicked up into full gear and she was sick for a while after. I spoke with hotel management and all they had to offer was, we will speak to our guests. Smoking is prohibited. Yea, ok. Tell that to your guests who have def gone through a carton of cigarettes in a few days. My husband started having respiratory issues the night before we left. Idk if past hurricanes have left water damage or what is happening there, but my family def was not well at the end of this trip. Definitely won’t book my family here again. Another thing, just to throw in there. There was def an area in the bathroom mirror that didn’t get fogged up. My 8 year old noticed and mentioned a hack to tell if this was a 2 way mirror. Her hack didn’t work. But I’m not convinced that there was some tampering with that mirror. I did like the location and access to taxi’s, restaurants and the walkability. The view of Maho beach is def unmatched. My fave part, watching the planes, The access to the beach, although it was too rough for my kids. We did go to other local beaches and over to Anguilla. For the money spent, will find a better option next time.

We chose to ignore all the negative reviews and come with an open mind. However, everything that everyone is saying above is true. First, the rooms had cockroaches of the 2 cm in size. They looked clean but there were constantly bugs everywhere. Second, half of the people are sick on that resort: coughing, sneezing. ACs in the lobby are ice cold which makes it easy to get sick. I ended up getting sick with high fever, cough and aches. I realized that day that everybody was coughing and sneezing at that resort. So it wasn’t surprising how one would not get sick when everyone is carrying a virus. I politely asked the manager for extra time for a late checkout as I had fever 39 and wanted to rest for extra 3 hours, but the manager couldn’t care less and didn’t even bother talking to me directly. He sent someone else to report that they cannot go past 12. It was very demeaning and rude. It is clear that he didn’t care if we come back and certainly didn’t care about the feedback. We found that managers at this resort have a big problem with attitude (as if they are above everyone else and better than everyone else) while regular people (cleaners, restaurant workers, beach workers, towel people) are really nice. Even security were the nicest people but the managers were very aggressive. Honestly, very sad and unethical. I wish managers could treat tourists well, their attitude goes a long way but they treated everyone like tourists are an inconvenience to them and like they didn’t want to be there. Third, food was average. It was the same food all the time even though they said it was a different food theme. It was the same items all the time. Half of the restaurants are not open half of the time and the only choice you have is buffet which gives you the same food all the time. The best thing about this resort is not the resort itself but the airport nearby - planes coming in and out. You can get nice shots of the planes coming it and out. What was surprising is to hear people in the elevator saying after staying for 3 days: “Time to go home, enough!” It tells you something.

We literally just checked in and went to the Palms restaurant for lunch and met Stacey our amazing waitress with a beaming smile and exceptional service. We felt bad because we didn't have money for a tip because our luggage was with the bellman but she said she was more worried about us leaving with a smile then a tip for her. I believe her! Her service through the entire meal said that already! We hope to have her serve us many more time! Thank you Stacey!!

Sonesta is very clean. Staff are all so friendly. Anthony, of the servers, was the best. He always checked on us to see of we needed anything. Such a sweet individual. The housekeeping made sure we always had clean linens and kept our room very clean. Front desk staff was very helpful. Can't wait to go back. Felt very safe, security was always around.

Perfecte locatie. Het kost wel wat maar dan heb je ook wat ;) 2e bezoek maar hopelijk volgt nog een 3e!
