Hampton Inn Rocky Mount

There was a fire alarm that didn't shut off for 42 minutes. This is unacceptable.

Elevators were filthy. If you have workman on the site, personnel need to tend to all the common areas.

I was hopeful that this would be a nice stay because the reviews looked good. It was NOT! I checked into the room and it smelled like smoke and stale. There was a strip of wallpaper falling off the wall, the was an unusual amount of body hair in the bathtub, and the bed was not not secure to the floor. The room was nothing to brag about but I was hopeful to get sleep and get a good breakfast. That did NOT happen either. The breakfast attendant spoke so rude to me that another hotel guest tried to apologize for her. I am a Hilton Honors member and have stayed at Hilton brand hotels around the world. This hotel and some staff do not come close to making the mark.

Rooms were good to go. Breakfast was great.

Property was under renovation and severely understaffed. We waited for 15 minutes on check in for the only person on duty. Not his fault as he was helping with another problem, but not a good look.

Convenient

Dated. Room and bathroom rough. Plaster coming off ceiling, rust around tub fixtures, etc.

The staff was very friendly. The individual who checked me in was new, but she did a great job with the help of the more senior staff who was there to walk her through the check in. The bathroom was clean and breakfast was tasty.

The room smelled moldy, the AC didn't work, the chair was stained and the beds would squeak with every move. To my mind that is the sign of a much older mattress and/or older box spring. I also did not like how close the faucet was to the bowl of the sink, as you can't get your hands under the water without touching the back of the bowl. Very poor design. I also pretty unhappy with how much noise the younger guests (tweens) were making outside playing by the net. This wouldn't have been an issue except for the fact that is was after 11 pm and the rowdiness was right outside my window.

We were traveling from the eastern shore of Virginia in route to our home in Western North Carolina during a tropical storm. In eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, the internet service is very spotty, consequently, we were having difficulties in accessing the Hilton Honors website to make a hotel reservation for the particular evening. Using Google, we were deferred to a local phone number for this hotel. We telephoned, thinking that we were speaking with the hotel directly and reserved a room for the evening. However, after arriving at the hotel and checking in, we learned that the local phone number was in effect a third party booking agency, not the number for the hotel. We were advised by the front desk that our reservation was reserved by this third party, not Hilton and not by the hotel itself. The rate charged was roughly 30 percent higher than the published rate. At check-out, we could not be provided with a receipt of payment, rather we were advised that we would have to contact the third party, or wait until they emailed us a receipt copy. The front desk advised us that there were several other individuals who experienced the same issue that we had experienced, that they could help with our complaints and that we would have to contact the third party to resolve any issues. This was the first time that we have ever stayed at this hotel. The hotel is very tired and needs upgrading. The interior is showing its age. My recommendation to any traveler is to avoid this hotel when traveling in this region. There are a number of newer competitive hotels in the immediate area that we were made aware of the following morning, and I recommend that competitive review be conducted before staying here. I will definitely not be returning to this location.
