The Lion

Having been to a golden wedding celebration at Downton Old lodge, we needed a place for an overnight stay. The Loin was perfect. Lovely old beams, comfortable room with super bathroom, good food and pleasant staff. My choice gave me a lot of brownie points from my wife!

Set in a stunning rural location next to a river with a spacious garden the Lion really is worth travelling to away from motorways and main roads. A small menu of well presented food - legendary triple cooked chips! - is a bonus. The comfortable room with a welcome fan had a stunning view across the rooftop and a spacious bathroom. Delightful.

Location is fab, it’s lovely by the river. The staff were great too. Helpful and hard working. The young lady on reception was stand out

Quite stuffy in the bedrooms due to lovely weather. Breakfast was rationed, there was not enough food on the buffet table considering number of guests. Disappointed by lack of gluten free and vegetarian alternatives for a full English breakfast

Staff were delightful, with Ruth extending a very special welcome, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Thank-you!

Great selection at breakfast - good quality, generous portion sizes and great service. Comfortable, clean room with a large bathroom. Lovely location by the river.
