"Great week at secrets"

8.0

Beautiful hotel. Lovely and clean. Wasn’t too busy when we were there, so stress free in dining room, except for the coffee and toast situation. God knows what it will be like when it gets busier. Our biggest gripe was the food. Nice as it was it was always like warm at best. Why not have a few microwaves there to give it a quick zap? Don’t bother with preferred option, we used all these facilities and didn’t have it. Oops 😁. Had a couple of allacarte evenings which were very nice. Didn’t notice any children on the beach, wouldn’t have bothered me if we did.

"Not 5 Star, but not too bad either."

8.0

Okay. This hotel is not 5 star; it might be in Bulgaria but it ain’t in Western Europe. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel is lovely and modern, I think it’s just gone through a major upgrade, but not sure. The staff are brilliant and only too happy to help, but there are some things that are lacking in general. Sun beds and pool area: The pool is huge and there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. The problem with the umbrella situation is that you need a metal pin to hold up the open umbrella, and guess what, there are hardly any pins. You ask at reception and get a vacant look and no help in the matter. Breakfast: You would expect in a “5 star” hotel to have coffee served at the table, not here though. Now bear in mind that there are over 300 rooms in this hotel and you have to queue for a coffee machine that makes luke warm coffee at best, as you can imagine the queue sometimes is a long on, and when you get a coffee, it’s not hot enough. Food: Plenty of choice but just not hot enough. If you prefer to eat outside the outside eating areas are furnished with metal chairs, which when dragged over a tile floor make if sound as if you are in an engineering workshop; not a very relaxing atmosphere to eat an evening meal. So much so that sometimes you have to stop talking mid sentence the noise is so great. Rooms: We had a junior suite which was really good, the cleaner not so. If I could say she spent 5 minutes in the room cleaning I would have been overly generous. Great rain head shower in the modern bathroom, however, the bath towels are really, really small and thin, not big enough or of any quality. I would give this hotel a 3.5 to 4 star rating because of all of the above.

"Good Standard hotel but needs some TLC and tweeks"

8.0

Good holiday overall a hotel that could get better. Stayed here for 14 days in club preference. The lounge has no windows and is a bit depressing. no outside area for club preferance and most outside seating is smoking. Guests vape in non smocking area and people remove cushions so you can't get a seat as none avaliable unless you sit on metal bars. Rooms a good size and well maintained our cleaner was great and serviced the Room to our preferences. Views are excellent over the bay. Food. Was good and a good mix only comment is it could be hotter. Club preference towels have to be left in room and can't be changed at towel station which was a pain. To be honest I Question if it's worth it as nobody ever checks you are in club preferance room and can use areas reserved for them Great Beach but lack facilities as no bar area you need to go through a turnstile clime steep stairs to get a Drink and toilets need improving. To many Deams Guests try sitting on the beach and have to get removed but you still end up with children on the beach at times. The hotel overall is to a good standard and staff are friendly and helpful. Drinks are of a good Quality. Bar staff helpful and coffee shop open all day.

"The weather was hot, the food was not!"

8.0

We had such a wonderful holiday here last year close to perfect that we couldn’t wait to book again for this year. What a difference! The few little extra touches that we appreciated last year have all gone. The mini fridge near the pool area where you could get a water or soft drinks has gone. Now you either have to walk around the large pool area or go through the swim up bar, as someone who is not confident in water not ideal. Last year if you entered the preferred section of the pool and you hadn’t got the orange towels you were asked to leave, not this year however anyone can sit wherever they like. Although the food was plentiful it wasn’t very hot, I had an upset stomach for 3 days which wasn’t ideal. If you are considering this hotel for your next holiday I would advise not to pay the extra for preferred as others have said, save your money.

"Has potential."

6.0

We are currently holidaying at Secrets Sunny Beach, travelling with Jet2 and have been here for six nights so far. First impressions are of a clean, modern, efficient, well-kept establishment. We opted to pay extra for the Privilege Package which supposedly gives you a number of benefits. Really, don’t bother, it’s so not worth it. All you get is a bag with two orange towels that you can’t keep. The Privilege areas are just the same as everywhere else. There are cabanas but there are no mattresses so you lie on uncomfortable wooden slats. You get access to the Privilege lobby. A dark place with drinks and snacks, that you can get elsewhere in the hotel. All the rooms in the hotel face the sea, so no matter which floor you are on, you will get a great sea-view. The rooms are great. Spacious, huge beds, loads of pillows, seating area, walk-in shower and a large balcony area. The mini bar is replenished every day with soft drinks and a couple of cans of beer. We found ourselves on the 13th floor. Great views, but the downside is trying to get back down to civilisation. The lifts have obviously been programmed for maximum efficiency. Unfortunately, this means at busy times you can wait up to ten minutes to get a lift. The pools are great and well-kept, but we encountered a brand new phenomenon to us. There are plenty of sun beds and parasols, but there is a severe scarcity of the pins needed to keep the parasols open. A few still have the pins attached but you have to do a search to find these. Otherwise, no luck. Reception advised us to ask at the pool, but they didn’t have any. So if you value not getting sun-burned, maybe you have to stay in the shade of the upper terrace (which is very nice). A better solution would be to supply pins to keep the parasols open. Surely this isn’t going to break the budget. Our biggest issue is dining. What a stress-fest. At breakfast, just getting a coffee is an ordeal. There is one coffee machine which usually has a queue of about ten people waiting. It takes about a minute for the machine to make a cup, so it’s usually a ten minute wait just to get a coffee. For goodness sake, in most hotels, it’s one of the first and most basic things that’s offered to you as you sit down. Not here. No one offers anything as you sit down. Lunch and dinner are no better. It really is a mob scene. I have no idea how unpleasant it will be here when the hotel is busy as it’s chaos just now, during this quieter period. Oh, if you want a drink with your meal, cross your fingers. Today was the first time we were served a drink. Since we arrived, lunch or evening meal, no one has offered a drink. After waiting twenty minutes, if you try to serve yourself in the restaurant, you are told this is not allowed. We have taken to going to the lobby bar beforehand to get a glass of wine to enjoy with our meal. It saves the unpleasantness. On speaking to reception I was advised to speak to the restaurant and pool staff, who are very positive and friendly, but nothing changes. The staff do seem to work hard and for the most part are friendly and helpful. This hotel has a lot of potential, is in a super location and could be really good, but it’s not there yet.

"What a beautiful hotel!"

10.0

What a beautiful hotel! Great location - right on the beach. Rooms are lovely - very spacious and beautiful views. Staff friendly and helpful. Able to walk all the way to Nessebar on the beach - just under 5 miles but got the bus back! Highly recommend the Old Sailor there - beautiful mussels and garlic bread with good service and reasonably priced. Food was good in hotel - ate in the fish and Italian a la carte restaurants.

"Special holiday for our wedding anniversary"

8.0

It had everything you could want from a holiday. Lots of restaurants to eat at, some buffet and some table service. It has it's own beach with reserved beds for guests. Rooms were well set out and nicely decorated. The adults only status helped to give it a very relaxing atmosphere. I would visit again.

"Lower your expectations and compare it to 3 star hotels."

4.0

It really is just a dissapointing hotel. Staff are poorly trained and rude. (obviously there are exceptions, but the majority), nothing is anyones job, if you want a table at dinner, the best ones are not laid, if you ask "can we sit here" , tantrum from waiter at needing to lay it. Drinks are so hit and miss, you can order the same drink form 4 waiters you get 4 different drinks. Reception staff (and these inc managers) are the most useless and rude. Everyone is miserable. Go on a similar holiday to Turkey, the staff can not do enough for you, the peope in the bars and restaurants in Turkey are so friendly and hospitable, come to bulgaria it could not be more opposite. And i say this as someone who gave it a second chance, I came here in Sept 2023 and 2024. A niggle of mine is I like ice cold aircon, but they set it to a minimum of 20'c which is just not cold in my opinion, 28'c outside, I want respite in a cold room, but not possible. WHY, does the whole Lobby bar, reception, lifts and Eclipse bar smell of sewage, every day and night, potent over bearing sewage smell, thats obviously offensive to everyone as people avoid the right hand side of the massive space where its most potent! feels like a 2 star dive when walking through those central areas. There is a non smoking section, but forget that, there was a staff birthday party one night, the hotel staff, reserved 50% of the out door seating space for a party of 15 hotel staff, that were rude to anyone who went to sit down with out knowing it was reserved, literally calling them stupid for making the mistake, all smoking in the non smoking section, offering to fight people that raised the issue and the staff actually working ignored everyone else to cater for the staff party. It is generally kept pretty clean, but there are areas its apparent are not designated to anyone, so no one touches those areas, so dirty glasses and crockery etc build up and " not my job [shrug]" The food is dull, really dull. its basic, poorly cooked, obviously recycled, Chinese night on Wednesday, over cooked dry duck leg special... Thursday, Cold duck leg salad, this theme is repeated everyday, with bizzare concoctions. I have a sweet tooth, but never had dessert, the most boring little cakes, 6 different looking things, all taste the same, the "special hot dessert" 5 out of 7 nights was tinned apple in caramel sauce that was flavourles and thickened with gelatine, only reason to do this is to be cheap and not use double cream, 6th night, tinned fruit salad in the same sauce, 1 night was different, a rice pudding.... all bland. This is a 3 star hotel residing in the building of a former 5 star. Its a bit cheaper than some other options.... trust me, pay the extra... or compare it to 3 stars in other areas, its more comparable by far. I also had family in Dreams next door to secrets (we basically drifted between the two as they are owned by the same people and they are in one compound. Dreams is a lower star rating, its not great either, the drinks in dreams are aweful, the food is equal, sometimes more choice as its a much bigger hotel, the staff are the same, rude, scruffy, resent you for asking them for anything, very dated, more so than secrets, but its cheaper i believe. I really dont think either are worth the money, they do a good job making it look on Jet2 and Tui like really luxurios hotels... not the case, avoide the hotels, avoid Sunny beach (dirty, scruffy, not family friendly, feel like you're going to be mugged when you walk around the town).
