Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan

I had an amazing stay at Sofitel Old Cataract Aswan. Everything was exceptional, but I especially want to highlight how thoughtfully the team accommodated my dietary requirements at breakfast. A special thank you to Amr, who made every morning start beautifully with his genuine kindness and welcoming smile. He went out of his way to make sure I felt comfortable and well taken care of, which truly made a difference to my stay. The service, attention to detail, and warmth of the staff made this experience unforgettable. I would absolutely love to return.

It’s absolute magic. Time travelling to a different era. The staff, the view, the room - absolutely stunning. Special mention to Nour at reception who was so helpful and kind. The chocolates and flowers in the room on arrival, the incredibly comfortable king bed, the Nile river view and sunset.. just incredible! The attention to detail is what I love about this place and I will be back for sure.

- the quality of food at the restaurant wasn’t what I expected from fine dining. It lacked depth in flavour and true fine dining experience. - I could only stay one night as the Christmas period it was $1800 USD for one night for Nile river view suite, which is the highest I’ve paid and I’ve been so some incredible 5-star hotels around the world. But having said that, it was worth it for the one night.

The food was great, and the rooms were spacious. The staff were so welcoming and kind! The food was delicious and there were lots of different options. I especially liked Asran who was so welcoming in the cafe.

Fantastic afternoon high tea on the terrace. The food and tea were great! But the difference from good to great is as always the service with attention to detail and personal touch. Thank you, Soliman.

Great hotel in a wonderful location on the Nile. Exceptional service, especially from Solomon serving drinks on the Promenade, and Nour giving the tour of the Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill rooms.

We stayed at the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan for 2 nights during our tour of Egypt with Djed Egypt Travel. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and immaculate and the staff warm and welcoming. I'm sorry we missed the daily 4pm tour so we could the visit other historical areas of the hotel. Our room was in the annex overlooking the Nile and hotel grounds. Spectacular! The room was quite large with a king bed, separate sitting area with sofa, a bar, large closets, bathroom, and balcony. The food was delicious and the service excellent. It was worth the splurge to watch the fellucas sailing on the Nile from our balcony. We would definitely stay here again.

Staying at the Old Cataract Hotel is not merely checking into accommodation; it's stepping into a living piece of history. Perched majestically on a cliff overlooking the Nile in Aswan, the hotel absolutely lives up to its legendary status. From the moment you walk through the historic palm-lined driveway into the grand, orientalist-style lobby, you are transported to the era of Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill (both famed guests). The sense of timeless elegance is palpable. Our room in the historic Palace wing was spacious, beautifully appointed with traditional furniture, and offered a breathtaking, direct view of the Nile and the sailing feluccas. Waking up to that vista was worth every penny. The newer wing offers more modern comforts but lacks the same character. The true highlight was the **terrace**. Having sunset cocktails on the terrace, with the iconic view of the Nile and the distant desert, is an experience we will cherish forever. Dining in the legendary **1902 Restaurant** (jacket required for gentlemen) was like dining in a museum, with superb food and live classical music. The service throughout was impeccable—attentive, discreet, and genuinely warm.

After tipping the security for calling a cab, the driver (unmarked car as most are not real taxis which is fine) quoted 5x - 10x (1000 Egyptian pounds) what it should be. Security was not helpful finding another, smirked at me. Talked to manager inside. Used InDrive taxi app and paid 200 (109 Egyptian was recommended price). Doesn’t feel good to leave a 5 star hotel feeling taken advantage of and not helped by their own staff. Came for tea and sunset which was very nice. Made several mistakes with ordering tea without sugar but they fixed it. Pro tip eat dinner outside with your high tea vouchers. Use InDrive and don’t tip until value has been delivered.
