Upon check-in, the front desk person insisted that they did not receive payment from Orbitz and charged my card again. I was later able to show them proof of the Orbitz charge and management eventually refunded the double charge, but it was an unfortunate hassle. I enjoyed my stay otherwise, though this hotel may not be for everyone. While the central location was perfect for me, some might not like all the outside noise. This is an old building with thin walls, but in good condition overall with surprisingly good wifi. The all wood building is beautiful, breakfast was tasty, and the staff was friendly and bilingual.

Room did not feel secure and felt dirty. Window locked but seemed like it was not sturdy. The window led to a hallway with no screen so it felt like someone could come in. No air conditioning and had to keep window open for circulation as there was a strong perfume smell in room.

I don't often write reviews but following my experience at this hotel I feel I must share my story so others book with full details of what they are going to experience. I had booked a queen room but when I checked in and went to my room (Rosa room) it was a twin room with single beds. I went down to ask to move and I was told it was an upgrade!! A booked queen room to a single bed is never an upgrade! I was shown a horrible room beside the reception desk as an alternative, but that should never be given to a guest. The night reception said a queen room (the type of room which I had booked and paid for) would be available for the 2nd night of my visit. So I dealt with a single bed in a dirty room until the next morning. Next morning I asked what time is best to move and the very rude reception person was sarcastic and unhelpful, kept saying I wasn't being moved and "as I've already told you several times" without actually answering my question about why last night there was a room coming free and it was ok to move but at 8am the next morning it isn't. I believe the room in question was available but most likely wanted to keep it free for a walk-in booking. I decided to leave this hotel and not use the 2nd night. The rooms are old and filthy. As I tried to leave the reception wouldn't open the gate until I threatened to call the police! Avoid this hotel.

the hotel is not a hotel, but a big house, conveted to a hotel. Very clean, lightly squeaky hallways, no elevator (or at least what I saw), very kind and helpful staff. and the bad part: A train passes by very near to the hotel, but only on the days. Too noisy, but in the night it doesn't pass. The restaurant has limited choices of food, but it was very tasty, and Alfredo, his staff, very kind. Will go again if I need to go to the center of San José.
