"Wonderful Location and Hotel Grounds; Interiors Need Refresh"

8.0

Spent three nights for our 25th wedding anniversary trip in June 2026 and overall there are some distinct strengths and weaknesses to this property. I had booked the room with a suite upgrade through my Globalist concierge who informed the hotel regarding our special celebration. It would have been nice for that occasion to have been acknowledged by the hotel via some type of in-room recognition however nothing was ever said to us. Having said that however I can say that the customer service and staff at this hotel are exceptionally welcoming and friendly, especially the restaurant staff at the restaurant (Shor) where we enjoyed an excellent Globalist breakfast each morning and the lobby bar staff where we had evening cocktails. The hotel grounds are wonderful - there are so many beautiful lush areas of foliage to walk around in it really makes you feel like you are in a secluded paradise. The three pool areas are clean and well-stocked with lounge chairs and towels. The fitness room, while on the small side, is also well-appointed with multiple cardio and strength training options. The one major drawback about our stay is the obvious age and wear/tear of our room. This property is desperately in need of an interior refresh as they still have small bathrooms with tub/shower combos with curtains and the furniture is beat up from overuse. I will say our suite was clean and fully functional and the split-system air conditioning worked extremely well. If they could refurbish the rooms I believe this hotel could easily move to a Category 7 from it's present status as a Category 5. Overall I would recommend this property if you plan on spending a lot of your time away from the room. As mentioned, strolling the grounds is wonderful and it's a short walk onto Balboa Island for dining and shopping.

"Nice property that needs some TLC"

8.0

First time at this hotel. The location is convenient to Newport Harbor, Balboa, and close to John Wayne Airport, just expect traffic. Wouldn’t recommend if planning a Disneyland vacation. We found the staff to be friendly overall except for the main pool area. I found one young lady to be friendly, otherwise it seemed we were inconveniencing them. The staff at the bistro by the lobby was great. The rooms need some updating. This hotel seems to be a split personality. The lobby area has Santa Barbara vibes while the rooms have more of a mid-century Palm Springs feel. All in all, we would probably stay here again if in the area.

"I won’t return"

6.0

The grounds are beautiful and picturesque. I didn’t leave the property and enjoyed The Weather. The bed was comfortable and the room was mostly clean. Drinks were good.

I was ignored by staff on several occasions. The front desk was kind and helpful. The room I got was not the one I requested but because I booked 3rd party they refused to help even though I had a screenshot of the confirmation of the room I booked. It didn’t matter, all the rooms were sold out so I think that’s why they passed me around. Instead I over paid for a single king bed in front of the pool. The music is super loud and even in the morning starts the party at 9 sharp. Service at the bar and when we tried to order was very slow if they even stopped by our table.
