Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen

We had an amazing experience. Hotel is very comfortable and close to the city centre. Restaurant and Pub are very delicious. We loved the restaurant big windows. Special thanks to Camila and Ina at the reception. They were very helpful and nice. Always available and friendly.

It’s as hot as hell in this room as I write, lathered in sweat. The ac doesn’t work at all, the window only opens an inch (which is fine as long as you aren’t cooking the guests to death) and as it’s the midnight sun the curtains can’t be drawn over the only bit of cool air . The checkin process wasnt good, a lot of tours arrived at once - understaffed for this time of the year I would say although the staff were clearly doing their best and none of this is their fault If I had a car I would sleep in it. No hotel in the world is good if the conditions means you cant sleep. Why does any place have to be heated to extremes? People sleep better in the cool anyway

Room is fine but was not vacuumed before my arrival, no safe in the room.

Conveniently located in Longyearbyen. Probably one of the most northerly decent hotels in the world too.

This was a once in a lifetime experience staying this hotel. Made it very special to experience the Summer Solstice, from the comfort of my room. The hotel room was simply the best, with gorgeous views of the mountains and the Sea. Was very thoughtful of the hotel to have a thermometer gauge on the window to visually see the outside temperature. The amenities are very adequate and equipped with a Kettle and Coffee. A very welcome combination. The Dining room breakfast, which was included in the price was simply the best, especially for those who have dietary constraints (Vegan, Vegetarian). The staff were very friendly. It was good to interact with the dining room service staff, who were working the summer, at the hotel. The dinner culinary experience was very good but a bit pricey. The dining room ambience was very welcoming. Though it could get a bit too busy if a cruise was in town. Even saw some reindeer in the hotel yard. The hotel front desk staff were very helpful despite their busy daily routine. One area of potentially enhancing an integrated experience, for those who travel on Hurtigruten coastline cruise to be able to integrate their Svalbard hotel and excursions itinerary. Was not aware that this hotel was a Hurtigruten property. Overall, a very memorable and once in a lifetime experience staying at the "Northernmost Hotel in the Arctic Circle". Hope to visit this place again.

Everything is ok

Great Location! Close to the shopping street and restaurants. I didn't have time to use their wellness area. The hotel staff were so knowledgeable and willing to help you. One of my tours got canceled the front desk agent gave us some recommendations to do. Their breakfast was so good :) We saw a Svalbard Reindeer from our window.

We spent 2 nights at the Radisson recently. The one thing I can say which is positive is that the staff are wonderful and are credit to the hotel. The downsides, I know Longyearbyen is expensive but the rooms are very basic. Our first room had heating that didn't work. We reported this and then went out and returned and it was not fixed although the issue had been logged with maintenance. We were asked if we wanted to change rooms which we did as we were feeling ill and shivery so no heating wasn't an option. The second room did have heating but after the first night we discovered a problem on the opposite end was that it had one temperature, hot! No matter where the temperature knobs were set at the temperature didn’t change so we ended up turning the radiator off completely. There was no plug for the bath in the second room so had to go and retrieve the plug from our first room with no heating which we luckily still had a card for. The biggest disappointment was the walrus safari tour we booked through the hotel, a trip they actively promote on the hotel website. The marketing for this noted a colony of walrus and we were really excited to go out in the summer sun from 7 til 11pm. I would recommend not booking this trip which I believe is provided through Hurtigruten and the hotel really should not be promoting this. It was really poor and after excellent trips to Coal Mine 3 and Barentsburg this really stuck out as just awful. First off, we didn't even get picked up until 7.30pm because, I believe, they needed to do two separate journeys to get all guests. By time we had all boarded the boat and set off time was already passing. The driver and the guide didn't seem particularly interested or informative. The guide started giving us info on Longyearbyen and coal mining (inaccurate information at that about the number of mines open) which didn't feel particularly relevant to the trip we were doing when instead, given it was a WALRUS SAFARI it may have been more helpful to have given info on walruses, no information was given on walruses, their habit etc! We saw 1 walrus and it seemed then the guide was satisfied they had done their job and lost interest and made no further effort. The driver was more interested in chewing his tobacco and madly swinging the steering wheel from left to right so viciously which didn't seem to do much to help make a nice journey back. We were back at the hotel well before 11pm so don't feel we got good value from the trip.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Lobby is very nice for waiting.
