Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel

Last stayed here 3 years ago and found it clean comfortable and fab location. to stay here over the bank holiday with my husband

The room was filthy, didnt look like it had been hoovered properly for ages, towels were really dated urgently need replacing but were at least clean, bed linen was clean and bed was comfortable, other furniture falling apart, we were upgraded to a prestige room so was surprised as we entered it smelt musty like it hadn’t been aired/used in ages. Thick dust on carpet which was clearly visible, huge dark like red wine stains on the carpet, also only one teabag each in room (we were staying 2 nights) not a problem we just asked for more it just felt like housekeeping hadnt been over the room before we arrived. The disappointment was the amount of money we paid as we paid premium rates and the standard of the room was far from that. £400 for 2 nights bed and breakfast was alot so you expect a certain standard. The hotel reception were very good and agreed without any confrontation that it wasnt good enough, and refunded us our parking as well as have given us a complimentary one night stay with breakfast and free parking when the renovations have taken place. It is a nice hotel overall, its just i said to them i appreciate you are in the process of updating the rooms but then the prices need to reflect the current standard of some rooms until the update is complete as you cant be expecting customers to be paying over the odds at the moment. I would say the room was worth £100 a night with breakfast not £200 a night which is what we paid, granted it was bank holiday but was still steep on pricing.

Great location, helpful staff, comfortable room

Having to pay for parking - thought it would be included Friends getting a cheaper deal than us!

The Hotel was reasonably priced and in a great location for what we needed. The room was clean and the staff were helpful when we didn't have toiletries when we arrived. The room was spacious and breakfast was also really tasty and lots of variety - even had a vegan pastry!

Air Con wasn't working and the pool facilities were run down and not maintained well - the changing rooms were dirty and the bathrooms poorly maintained.

First my booking was transferred to Rougemont Hotel because the Mercure had a flood that led to the move so all the above scores apply to the Rougemont

Such an ideal position in central Exeter. Reception, bar and restaurant areas all pristine - however the rooms certainly need refurbishment … which is in hand. Great to have a pool, jacuzzi and steam room!

Dated rooms - they were clean and of a good size but need the updating which is planned.

The location was excellent. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly.

The TV could only get one channel. The breakfast staff were not replenishing the breakfast buffet and there was no milk or brown bread at one point.

Location for me. As I was there for business. Great Gym was feasible Quiet night sleep Food was always quick when ordered

The rooms wasn’t overly clean. The price for breakfast was expensive. Beds are quite uncomfortable Parking costs
