The Bull Inn West Tanfield

Room was lovely and the bed really really comfortable. The full English breakfast was exceptional, portion size very large, with 2 sausages. ample bacon, black pudding, beans full fried tomatoes, egg cooked to perfection. (not for the faint hearted. Definitely will be back to enjoy this wonderful pub and surrounding area.

The staff were lovely, friendly if a little bit flaky and what some might call unprofessional. But we like quirky, so that was all good. The parking was easy and also the pub was easy to find.

The room - in fact, the whole corridor - reeked of cigarettes. It wasn't easy to tell but it didn't seem as if this was a one-off caused by another guest, it really seemed ingrained in the fabrics. Also, the room was not thought out with safety in mind. A corner shelf was above your head when in bed and one one of them there was a huge top heavy lamp with the cord actually between the pillows - unplugged, but even so, a disaster waiting to happen. The place just didn't seem very clean and the breakfast, having had such a big write up in the listing, was only very so-so, although the staff did tweak the combo as requested.

Was near to Ripon - in a lovely small village - back garden has a lovely river - good breakfast

Squeaky floor in the bedroom - no shower anti slip mat in the bath which made in dangerous shower could have been better

This was a fabulous place to stay, the riverside beer garden was beautiful, the breakfast was fabulous and the staff really attentive and friendly.

The shower wasn't much more than a trickle and the bathroom had cobwebs and dust in it
