"Can’t wait to go back!"

10.0

We celebrated our 20th anniversary at Waikoloa Beach Resort, and it was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt peaceful, beautiful, and perfect for a special milestone. The resort grounds are stunning — palm trees, ocean views, and gorgeous sunsets every evening. We loved how relaxing everything felt while still having plenty to do nearby. The walking paths along the beach, the calm waters, and the scenic views made every morning and evening feel like something out of a postcard. What made our anniversary especially memorable was how romantic and laid-back the experience was. Whether we were enjoying dinner with ocean views, watching the sunset, or simply relaxing together, it felt like the perfect place to celebrate 20 years together. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and everything felt clean, well-maintained, and easy to navigate. There are also great restaurants and shops within walking distance, which made the trip even more convenient and enjoyable. Waikoloa Beach Resort is the perfect destination for couples celebrating a special occasion. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and so grateful we chose this beautiful place for our 20th anniversary. Highly recommend for anniversaries, romantic getaways, or anyone looking for a peaceful slice of paradise. 🌴🌅

"A Peaceful Oceanfront Retreat on the Big Island"

10.0

My wife and I had an amazing stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in March 2026. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt relaxing and well put together. The location is hard to beat—right on the water with beautiful views, easy beach access, and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The sunsets alone made the trip worth it. The atmosphere of the resort was exactly what we were looking for—laid back, clean, and truly Hawaiian. The pool area was a highlight for us, especially the infinity-style layout overlooking the ocean. It never felt overcrowded, and we were always able to find a comfortable spot to relax. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Exactly what you want for a beachside stay—quiet, functional, and refreshing after long days out exploring. Service throughout the property was great. Staff were friendly, helpful, and made everything feel easy—from check-in to dining to general questions about the area. Overall, this was a perfect getaway for a couple. If you’re looking for a relaxing, scenic, and well-located resort on the Big Island, this is a great choice. We would absolutely come back.

"Amazing and beautiful Resort with the best staff to"

10.0

First time here and it was stunning from beginning to end of our trip. The staff were super friendly and helpful. From the parking lot, checking in, while walking around, by the pool or even at the locations restaurants and bar. The team of staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Easy to talk to and personable. The rooms were amazing clean and beautiful views of the ocean and I must say the beautiful aroma of paradise throughout was perfect. Price was worth it in every way. Location wasn’t too far in my opinion we knew there would be some driving to get to other beaches, waterfalls, hiking and other island activities. While walking through the hotel lobby or out by the pool noise level wasn’t a problem no matter the time of day. The shopping centers were great for those days of staying in for the day. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping and making this trip so memorable. Already looking at coming back

"The friendliest staff- just wish there were more people working there."

10.0

This hotel is great for what it is. Staff is excellent, rooms are comfortable, beach is nice, pools are clean, slide was a big hit with our daughter. Lots of aloha, very friendly people. It is definitely understaffed - we couldn't get a front desk agent to answer the phone, our room wasn't cleaned, the spa didn't have anyone to perform the posted services - but that is no fault of the people who work there and perhaps to be expected for the price, which was reasonable (actually free for us since we used points). We are staying at Mauna Lani now and there's a world of difference in the service (but also it's significantly more expensive), but I would definitely stay at the Marriott again for a family trip.

"Poor views, pathetic service orientation - hard pass."

4.0

I’m honestly relieved reading these other reviews—it’s not just me. We did a quick one-night stop here at the tail end of a Big Island weekend, figuring it’d at least be a step up from the Courtyard in town (which seriously over-delivers for what it is). Nope. This place managed to disappoint at literally every single turn. As an Ambassador Elite, I saw every room category still wide open for points bookings the day of, so I thought a modest upgrade from the base resort-view room was realistic. It took way too much back-and-forth just to get bumped to a “partial ocean view” that barely qualifies as partial. Clearly this means no one in management is pre-blocking rooms based on locality status level. Likewise there was never a welcome amenity or anything special delivered for our ambassador status. Again, even the courtyard had a little something waiting in the room. That $40 resort fee? Zero added value for someone at my tier. “High-speed internet” is already a benefit I’ve more than earned with $23k+ annual spend. The snorkel gear they “provide” is a joke—you have to check it out before 3 p.m. from some third-party outfit that won’t even let you charge it to the room. So you’re walking all the way back to grab your wallet for something that should be complimentary. Meanwhile, basic stuff like fins or a life jacket (things other resorts, even in the Maldives, throw in) is all à la carte and basically mandatory if you want to actually use the ocean. Shows just how unethical of a property they are. Dinner at the on-site restaurant still stands out for how bad it was: they ignored us for over 30 minutes to even take our order, then had the nerve to act annoyed when I finally said something about no one coming by for drink refills. Their big “service recovery” was approving a late checkout. Sounds nice—except it was miserable. After the key stopped working mid-afternoon I finally called and said, “No, you bring me a new one.” The manager on duty acted like I’d asked for the moon. How many times do they expect a guest to hike to the desk because of their screw-up? The entitlement was unreal. Then there’s the 6:30 a.m. landscaping crew—full dozen people firing up mowers, blowers, and weed-whackers right after sunrise. I’ve lived in plenty of places and never seen quiet hours violated that blatantly. Like another reviewer said, you can see every cost-cutting corner on display: one person at check-in, an overwhelmed (and honestly pretty terrible) host, broken towel machines, nowhere to grab water, a tiny outdated gym missing even basic stuff you’d expect at $600+ a night—no Peloton, no cold water dispenser, not even a scale. Oh, and don’t bother with the Do Not Disturb sign during late checkout. Housekeeping keyed in without knocking, didn’t say a word, nothing. This place is a complete joke. Save yourself the aggravation and stay somewhere—literally anywhere—else.

"Former favorite - but not anymore!"

4.0

My husband and I have stayed at the Waikoloa Marriott multiple times over the years and always loved it. The beach has never been great for swimming (walkable but not ideal), but the pools are beautiful, most are heated, and the multiple hot tubs used to make it easy to relax without feeling crowded. Unfortunately, this resort has clearly gone downhill. We noticed changes immediately. On every prior visit, there was a water station in the lobby - something most resorts are adding, not removing. It was gone. Check-in was extremely slow with only one person at the desk, despite the fact that flights to the Big Island tend to arrive around the same times daily. There were no leis, no welcome juice, no cold towels - all things that have been standard at virtually every Hawaii resort we’ve stayed at over the years. But the biggest disappointment was the room. Our room overlooked… nothing. Literally nothing - not even a tree. The lanai was blazing hot during the day due to a concrete roof directly outside, which was covered in debris and even old, musty swimsuits. It was so bad I took photos. What made this even more frustrating is that I recognized the room. It’s the room they’ve historically used for short-term shower access when guests request late checkout. Now it appears they’re assigning it to paying guests - including Marriott Platinum Elite members. That felt unacceptable. The refrigerator door wouldn’t close properly. We reported it. The front desk said someone would follow up. No one ever did. The on-site shopping has also declined. There is now just one small shop, poorly staffed and oddly stocked (lots of sweaters?). It felt more geared toward locals than resort guests needing vacation basics like snacks, sunscreen, or beachwear. Breakfast was another major letdown. At $50 per person, we expected the same quality we’ve experienced in past stays. Instead: 20-minute wait despite many outdoor umbrella tables sitting empty (and unused all week) Buffet less than half the size it used to be No omelet station No drink station Fruit that looked old No one checking on tables (we had to ask a busser for water) It honestly felt closer to a basic continental breakfast than a $50-per-person resort experience. And as Platinum Elite members, we were surprised there was no complimentary breakfast benefit offered. It also appears a significant portion of the property is now Vacation Club (timeshare), which changes the overall feel of the resort. This used to be a place we returned to again and again despite the average beach. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. If you’re deciding where to stay, I’d recommend looking at The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort or Mauna Kea Beach Hotel up the road instead. We’ve stayed at Marriotts around the world and this is the first time we’ve felt this disappointed.
