Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

The beach and the pool were great. There are restaurants across the street with good food options. Good opportunities to shop as well. It’s a good family hangout choice. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a free laundry facility that was convenient to quickly wash clothes and swimwear. There were free bicycles that we could take to bike around the area - this was really nice. Location couldn’t be better.. The sunsets were so beautiful and breathtaking. You can rent life jackets, paddle boards and kayaks at the beach. The beach is very shallow and safe to swim and snorkel. Although the water was cloudy and snorkeling was not that successful. We did see turtles, fish and crabs..

The rooms are pretty small. The fridge is tiny and couldn’t hold much. Similarly the balcony had barely room to stand. A bit more room would have been helpful across the board. Parking is $35 per day and there is also an additional $40 per day resort fee. Overall, the cost adds up pretty quickly.

We have just returned home from our sixth stay at this property. It just keeps getting better and better. The rooms have undergone a renovation and they are great. Even though they are the same size, they seem much bigger. Anette Hemphill is amazing. She is the sweetest kindest woman. She takes great care of us, and shows us that she really does care about us a lot! So thrilled to know her. Mia Atsumi is wonderful. We have known her from her days at the Royal Hawaiian, and are thrilled that we get to still see her because she is now at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott! She is sweet and kind and a wonderful person. The food is great at the breakfast. Freshest fruit ever. And the staff at breakfast is the most wonderful people. Roxanne and Evelyn are the sweetest. Basically, all of the staff, from the time we drove the car to the driveway, to the people who check us in at the front desk, to the housekeeper, they’re all lovely. Can’t wait to come back hopefully again next year!!!

Location is great, the grounds around the Waikola are wonderful. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms leave much to be desired. For Marriot I would have expected much better. The rooms are worn and in need of attention, in fact a gut and remodel. Rooms are dated, moldy bathrooms, patch work repairs more motel 6 quality, see pictures. I would not return to this location until its completely overhauled. Not just visual, but health wise with the mold I would be concerned and not go.

Even in the land of Aloha it's hard to imagine a more friendly staff. Every single person. Rooms are brand new, so brand new that upon our arrival they were doing a photo shoot in the room next door to us in order to update their website. We know there were complaints this summer about the construction. Consider that now mostly complete. The ocean-front rooms with their lanais are amazing. Free welcome drink coupons. Vegan options (Tofu Poke!) on the menu are appreciated. Guests of all ages body types and cultures make it a welcoming place for all.

We stayed at the Waikoloa Marriott for 3 nights in late October after visiting much of the rest of the big island. For a not-terribly-expensive middle of the road resort experience (we paid about $400 a night) to wrap up our trip this was perfect for us. The resort has a great layout with many places to enjoy open-air indoor/outdoor seating. The pool is modest compared to some of the other resorts we walked around, but was clean and is only a short walk to the beach. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly every interaction we had with them. Our experience was probably enhanced given we were there off-peak season and it felt like there were only maybe a hundred other guests there with us. Could see the resort feeling smaller if it was packed to the gills with families over spring break etc.

We had to pay $35 a day for parking on top of our $400 a night rate... like cmon. Also, this is a dig at Waikoloa as a whole, not just the Marriott: it is the definition of bougie american-style insulated resort-landia. Replete with expensive shopping malls, overpriced restaurants, too many golf courses, and constant upsells. If this is your thing, then great. But know that anything approaching authentic Hawai'i is a 30+ minute drive away.
