Poor property maintenance, filthy kitchen, unprofessional staff, misrepresentation of room amenities: the room was advertised as a king plus twin bed-the twin turned out to be a roll-away and there was not enough space in the room to use it!

This room was a real letdown. It was crammed with stuff that didn't work or couldn't be used – a broken stove, a TV, and a coffee maker and kettle with nowhere to plug them in. The Wi-Fi extender they gave us actually made the internet worse, so we had to unplug it to get a weak signal from downstairs. And the blackout blind on the door (right in front of the bed) was too small, so the hallway light shone into the room all night. The bathroom was badly designed too; one switch turned on both the light and a loud fan, so anyone using it would wake everyone else up. We also paid extra for breakfast based on good reviews, but right before we arrived, they told us it was canceled and we (and everyone present) would just get free coffee and a few muffins in the morning. Plus, the hot tub was closed because of some permit issue.

This is a beautiful home with lovely gardens and rooms. We enjoyed our stay. It was an drive to the business district, breweries and down to the river. The Secret Room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the attached bathroom had plenty of counter space. There is a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the room. The common room and porch are very pleasant, and the owners provided access to plenty of guide books for hikes, flower identification, kids activities, games, and lots of printed information to help enjoy the area. They had just transitioned away from serving a full breakfast when we stayed. Instead, they provided slices of cake and fruit for breakfast. (The addition of plain or lightly sweetened yogurts with nuts for protein might have been nice). While this was a surprise to us, there were benefits to not feeling like we needed to wait around for the breakfast that used to be served at 8 am. We enjoyed an earlier breakfast at one of their recommended places (Bette's- open at 5:30), which allowed us more time to explore our favorite hike of the trip -- the Memaloose hills wildflowers -- before the trail started to get crowded.

Do not waste your money. The photos on the website have to be at least 10 years old if not older. The property is very worn and dated. The bathroom sink in the Secret Room has a ring of mold or mildew around the faucet. Nothing looks like it does on the website photos. Nothing cute and charming about the house. It’s more reminiscent of an old haunted house. And 20 mins before our arrival, we received a text stating they are in between seasons and not serving breakfast and the hot tub is out of service. I never saw a single staff person. Just a waste! Not worth the price they are charging. Avoid!

WARNING: This is no longer a true bed and breakfast. The property has changed ownership, but none of that was made clear when we booked. We chose this place specifically for the B&B experience and all the great reviews about breakfast. On the morning of our arrival, we got a message telling us what time breakfast would be served. Later, after check-in a second message arrived explaining that under the new ownership, breakfast was no longer offered—but there would be “fresh pastries in the lobby.” What we actually found? A single danish cut into tiny pieces, a pot of coffee, and a bowl of apples. That’s it. Calling that “breakfast” feels like a joke. The hot tub is also closed, something that we were also texted after check-in. I emailed after our stay—politely—requesting a partial refund since we didn’t get what we paid for. No one responded. Not even an acknowledgment. The only good thing I can say is that it’s in a quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to some good restaurants. But I absolutely would not stay here again, and I feel misled and ignored. This is not the experience we were promised.

Very disappointing. We booked at this place because we heard their breakfast was totally amazing and because they had a hot tub. 1/2 hour before check-in time, they sent us a text message saying that their hot tub was no longer available and they would not be serving a real breakfast but rather bread and fruit. (The fruit turned out to be a bowl of small bruised apples.) If we had known ahead what this place was like, there is no way we would have booked there and paid the price that we did. Not worth it. And their communication with us was way too late. If they had told us earlier about the changes and offered to refund us, we totally would have. Instead, they waited until 1/2 hour before check in time. Location was nice, but our view was the parking lot, and neither the bathroom door nor the shower door worked properly. And no hot breakfast - which was a huge selling point of this place. And no hot tub - which was one of the things that we wanted for our anniversary weekend getaway. Very disappointing. We felt lied to and deceived. They offered a 10% discount for our trouble, but that was way too little and way too late.

Walkable distance to downtown Hood River which was lovely. Good communication from hosts via text message and check in was an easy process with very clear instructions. The carpets throughout the home were dirty and stained with rugs that appeared old and worn. Most furniture in the communal space were covered with various blankets and tablecloths that did not appear clean. Area outside of the garden suite was cluttered with home supplies and miscellaneous items that were covered in dust.
