"Quirky , Comfy B&B."

8.0

This B&B is a friendly , fun place to stay . Itโ€™s by no means fancy . Itโ€™s an 100 year old house decorated with eclectic furniture. It didnโ€™t bother us because we found it fun . Everything in our room was in working order and very clean. Our suite was large and super comfortable. We had a living area with a kitchenette and a TV separate from the bedroom area . I do agree with other reviewers that the rugs need a good cleaning . Each morning we had a great breakfast and coffee. We spent lots of time on the porch reading and chatting with the other guests .

Breakfast was wonderful. Virginia was very professional and polite. The room that we were given was old, and not updated. We slept on a Murphy bed which was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was through the dining room. About 30 feet away. The place was rated 4 and 1/2 stars at trip advisor. We are still wondering how they got that rating.

"Great old house in Hood River."

7.0

Beautiful home in quaint Hood River neighborhood.

Someone had a dog that barked off and on. Itโ€™s very easy to hear people talking in other rooms. This was distracting.

"Would definitely return, and a few changes would turn our โ€œGoodโ€ rating to โ€œPerfectโ€."

7.0

Itโ€™s an absolutely beautiful place to stay and the room was very cozy. We would recommend it to anyone with a bit of warning to them about a few things.

The Gorge Room advertises a private bathroom, however you must walk through the dining room to get there which wasnโ€™t comfortable to do in the morning while people were eating breakfast. Also, it was difficult to access our room using the code; not very user friendly. We couldnโ€™t get into the house using the side door from the hot tub & had to go around to the front door of the house by the street. And while sitting outside on the side porch was comfortable, it was annoying that the sensor spotlight continued to come on every time we moved.

"Very Disappointing"

2.0

Our experience at the Inn at the Gorge was profoundly disappointing. The online portrayal of the establishment grossly misrepresents the reality. What is advertised as a luxurious boutique Bed and Breakfast is far from what we found. The images displayed online depict meticulously groomed grounds and impeccably kept rooms adorned with flowers. However, upon arrival, we were greeted with starkly different circumstances, fake fireplace on a wide screen T.V. in the dining room, and a single space heaters haphazardly plugged into a power strip and many items with neglected maintenance. The yard looked like a wreck, unkept, unmaintained with most of the landscape lighting broken. We were looking forward to the hot tub experience but as others have said in reviews the water needed changing, I would describe it as murky and cloudy, the area had no working lights that we could find, half of the jets were not working for us, opening and closing the lid which was torn and frayed was a nightmare in the dark, no instructions for use, no discernible disconnect panel, it was a personal injury lawyerโ€™s wet dream. We asked about anything we needed to know about using it prior to and were simply told โ€œItโ€™s in the backโ€ by the person that met us upon check in. When we got to our room it felt more like a hostel or frat house than a high end B and B. We found the room to be cold with only a space heater plugged into a power strip. I am certain thatโ€™s probably not a great idea. The fold down table was dirty with paint chipping. In the bathroom only two of the four vanity and overhead lights were working. We found a non GFCI plug next to the sink which I found hilarious because thatโ€™s probably not to code. We decided to go to the hot tub that evening and found two robes for our use in the closet. The problem was that the robes were child sized. The arms where above my elbow. Regardless we ventured forth along the side of the house with our phones to light the way because the side lights were not working. We then struggled with the hot tub torn cover to find it filled with cloudy water that really needed to be drained and cleaned. The images online are far different than what you find. In the morning we had breakfast, while there appears to be a cozy wood stove, it was never used instead you had a flat screen T.V. with images of a fireplace. Not quite the cozy warm feel thatโ€™s sold in the images. I would describe the whole place as shoddy and worn down with many maintenance items in desperate need of attention. The folks that served us breakfast were lovely and indeed quite nice. However that does not make up for what we thought was very deceptive, which was what is advertised on their website and what you see in the pictures online is not at all what you find when you get there. I would never stay there again.

"Disappointing Experience at Inn at the Gorge"

2.0

Our stay at the Inn at the Gorge in the Cascade Suite was a major letdown. As avid visitors to Hood River, we were excited to try out this inn, but it failed to meet even basic expectations. Pros: The check-in process was straightforward with no need for interaction, and parking was conveniently located next to the inn. While the lobby boasted pastries, the lack of advertised kombucha on tap was disappointing. We appreciated the quietness of the place during our stay, likely due to fewer guests in the winter months. Cons: The main reason we chose this inn was for the hot tub, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. We specifically chose this place for its advertised hot tub, eagerly anticipating a relaxing soak after a day exploring the gorge. However, what we found upon opening the lid was far from idyllic. The hot tub emitted a strong odor of mildew, and the water was a repulsive shade of yellow, indicating a severe lack of cleanliness and maintenance. It was evident that the tub hadn't been properly cleaned or drained for some time. This was a major letdown considering it was the primary reason for selecting this inn. Despite being aware that it was winter, it's unacceptable to advertise an amenity that is clearly neglected and unusable. Just because there may be fewer guests during this season doesn't justify neglecting maintenance. Guests have every right to expect the amenities promised on the website to be in a usable state regardless of the time of year. We received a text from the owner on our last day informing us that check out was at 11:00am and asked us to leave the door ajar when ready to check out. On the morning of our departure, after prepacking our car and heading off to an early breakfast, we closed the door completely indicating we were NOT ready to check out. Despite following instructions we returned at 10:25am to find a staff member cleaning our room, well before the designated checkout time of 11:00 am. When questioned, the staff member seemed confused and cited that he thought we had left since our belongings were gone, yet he shouldn't have entered a room with a closed door as per the inn's own instructions. This isn't an isolated incident; a previous reviewer (Cary G, one year ago on Jan 2023 titled "BUYER BEWARE") encountered a similar issue with cleaning staff entering their room prior to the designated check out time, indicating a systemic problem with communication and management. The owner's response to previous negative reviews, including the one from Cary G in January 2023, is indicative of a serious problem with communication and accountability. Despite claiming to take matters seriously, it's evident that little action has been taken to address ongoing issues. The lack of integrity displayed and failure to rectify persistent problems, is deeply concerning. It's unacceptable for an owner to be unable to effectively communicate with their own staff and to repeatedly fail to address long-standing issues within the establishment. Additionally, the owner's responses to legitimate concerns expressed in previous negative reviews appear to be insincere and unresponsive. Instead of taking meaningful action to address recurring problems, their replies come across as mere platitudes, lacking genuine commitment to enhancing the quality of service or amenities. This lack of genuine effort to rectify issues, as evidenced by our own experience and by the consistency of complaints in past reviews, underscores a concerning pattern of neglect toward guest satisfaction. Beware of false promises and unkept amenities. Don't be swayed by the pictures - the reality is far from what's advertised. Considering the consistent issues and the owner's apparent indifference, I would strongly advise against staying at this inn. It's evident that there is no commitment and dedication to run a successful establishment. Save yourself the frustration and choose a place where your comfort and satisfaction are truly valued and choose a place that prioritizes cleanliness and upkeep.
