Grand Naniloa Hotel, a Doubletree by Hilton

Location was excellent.

There was no privacy screen on our window. There were blackout curtains, but the second you opened them, people in the valet area could see directly into our room.

The beds were comfortable and the amount of pillows was perfect.

The elevator was scary and it took over 20 minutes before it opened.

Excellent. Had a great time. Really nice property in every way. Close to the airport.

This hotel was just average. Not a lot of hotel choices in Hilo. The room was fine and seemed clean but then we had a bunch of ants in our room getting into food we had in the room on our last night there. Haven’t had that happen in other hotels we’ve stayed in in Hawaii. The pool was small too and never saw anyone swimming in it but it was cloudy and cool the entire time we were there. The landscaping around it is nice and we enjoyed walking around the property but the hotel itself isn’t great. Kind of old. I also hate valet parking. I can see the cars parked there and don’t understand why you can’t park your own car. I needed something out of my car late at night and needed valet to get it out so that’s a hassle. I left something in my car that I needed. They also charge a lot for resort fees and in exchange give you coupons for drinks and golf that we never used. We don’t golf and wouldn’t have had time anyway. . So that’s a ripoff. I don’t recommend this hotel but there aren’t a lot of hotel choices in Hilo.

The location is good.

Upon arrival, I’ve paid for the room as well as the resort fees and taxes. But they still charged me again. I’ve talked to the front desk but still didn’t get refund. Also, valet parking is the only option
