Hotel Bethel - Fort MacLeod, AB

The sole positive of my experience was that I was able to get a room at Sunset Motel nearby instead which had incredibly helpful staff, a clean room, and even free toiletries provided for anything you're missing.

Arrived in the evening after driving all day to find they had NO ROOM FOR ME despite my prepayment. The office staff literally shrugged, blamed it on Booking.com, and asked me to go stand somewhere else while I tried to find alternative accommodation on my phone. They were also sluggish in processing my cancellation and refund - I still have not received it as of this review.

Location, cleanliness of rooms and wonderful friendliness of staff. Spacious parking lot.

I need a taller toilet or some handicapped ♿️ bars. But that's me specifically. Absolutely pleased otherwise.

Do not book numbers 101 - 102 or 103.Unless you are a single man just passing through and need a bed for the night. Other rooms seem fine but nothing fancy. But thats what you can expect for the price. The rooms are clean. The Management is a wonderful woman and very helpful.

Do not book here if you plan to arrive late at night. When we booked, we made it clear we’d be arriving between 1:30 & 2:00 am & asked about a plug-in for our car. The motel replied that they had an exterior plug (though “not for EVs”), but never mentioned any issue with late check-in. Considering plugging in would have cost about $1.35, & those outlets are almost certainly intended for block heaters in the winter, refusing EV use came across as petty & unaccommodating. EV drivers should be aware this motel refuses use of their exterior plugs. We never even got to check in. We arrived at 1:45 am after a long day of traveling, exhausted & just wanting to sleep. Instead, we found the office lights on but the door locked. A sign instructed us to ring the doorbell or call two phone numbers, which we did—along with knocking—for over half an hour. Nobody ever answered. We finally gave up & called Booking.com, who also tried & failed to reach them. At that point, we had no choice but to drive around in the middle of the night to find another motel. Being stranded at that hour after a long day of travel was not just frustrating—it was unsafe. Booking cancelled our reservation & refunded us at 4:22 am. Just six minutes later, at 4:28 am, the motel suddenly tried to call us. By then, I was finally asleep after so much stress & exhaustion, so of course I didn’t answer. Frankly, it was not appropriate for them to ignore us when we were at their door at 2:00 am, only to disturb us with a call hours later — in the middle of the night! At no point did the motel offer an explanation or apology. This experience was unacceptable & showed a total lack of professionalism, accountability, or concern for guests. We were left stranded, stressed, & forced to find last-minute accommodation in the middle of the night. There is no excuse for this.
