"New Owners, not good at customer service"

2.0

Booked one month in advance, was given the smallest room, notice on door required by law indicates max room rate 120.00 per night. My family was charged 150.00 per night and owners refused to acknowledge rate when asked. My family will not be returning. This room is not wheelchair friendly, no room, chair would have to be outside. Really.!

"An odd stay"

6.0

My impression of this place is different from many of the other reviews here (which made me book a room here in the first place). I stayed for one night, and based on what I saw while I was here, this is a bare bones motel. The rooms are small; a single room means a SINGLE, twin-sized bed, like for a child. A double means a standard double bed, not a queen size. I will note here that my room was at the very front of the place facing the street, separated from the other motel rooms by the front office. The guy also rents some "B&B" type rooms above the office (and the room I was given); these are separate from the typical motel rooms where you park your car right outside the door. My room had a very DIY feel to it: plumbing, window blinds, even furniture all looked like they were put in place by a couple of guys sharing a hammer and screwdriver. I took a few pictures to show this: for plumbing, my shower was connected by a plastic hose running up from the faucet itself (which was on the SIDE of the bathtub rather than the front). There was a carbon monoxide detector sitting on the *counter* rather than being installed on the ceiling, and the instructions for it were -- bizarrely -- in a clear envelope thumb-tacked to the corner of the wall! There were also some notes around the room printed on green tape, advising guests not to close the bathroom door or use the air conditioner if the cover was on. The front door to the room had 3 wooden blocks (bottom, middle, top) that acted as "deadbolts" once you're inside. My room had a second door with a proper deadbolt (very tight fit!), but the guy didn't have a key for it -- presumably the lock will have been changed by the time this review gets posted. The furniture was a bit odd too. My room had an overly large pink stuffed chair, I guess because they felt it needed something besides a bed and two bar stools, and that chair was all they had. In another room I was shown, the “desk” or “dining table” (wasn’t sure which it was) was just a fold-out card table and chair. Don't plan on spending your evening in the motel, or inviting friends to your room for a few drinks. My room was just kind of weird: everything in the room "worked", but it was like staying in the cottage that your friend built, rather than at a proper motel or inn. It did have a TV, A/C, wi-fi, a bar fridge, and a microwave that he brought in when I arrived. The double bed was quite saggy in the middle. I used the room to sleep, shower, and shave, nothing more. To be fair, when I was checking in, the guy gave me the choice of this room or a smaller "B&B" room I mentioned earlier, and I chose this, so I had some idea of what I'd be getting. The Oakwood's location is 1 minute away from Peter’s Players (which is why I was up here); you could easily walk. It's also ~2 minutes drive south to Sobey’s, Tim's and the LCBO. And I did find the place quiet, even though it was a long weekend. While I didn't have a bad experience per se, I'm not sure I’d stay here again. I wouldn't want one of the B&B rooms upstairs, as they looked cramped. Maybe one of the regular motel rooms at the back would be okay. Otherwise, there's a HoJo just down the street. Or... you're less than 30 minutes away from Orillia, which has more hotels to choose from plus the casino. But a lot of the other inns and resorts in Gravenhurst are quite pricey, so if cost is your #1 concern, then Oakwood would be a safe choice.

"Excellent cabin, excellent hosts!"

10.0

Our experience was terrific. We were in the Muskoka for a family wedding. The bridal couple told all guests about a variety of options of places to stay for the wedding, and we selected the Oakwood Motel. We were very happy we did. The rooms were clean and well maintained with a lot of added personal touches. The hosts (Renata and Markus) went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Renata was always making sure everything we okay during our stay, and we very much appreciated them working with us for a late check in. We loved that we had a sitting area just outside our cabin door, which allowed us to have morning coffee with other family members. We would definitely plan to stay here again.

"Wonderful owner"

10.0

Recently did a one night stay on your way to Restoule Ontario, Once again a wonderful stay. In recent years past my Husband and his father up until his fathers passing would frequently come to Gravenhurst to fish Lake Muskoka. This motel was perfect for them. They found it to be easily accessed as the location is immediate upon exiting Hwy 11. They found the rooms to be very neat and clean with everything that they needed. The owners, Renata and her husband where fantastic to them and took care of all our needs. They had many a wonderful stay and we would highly recommend this Motel to everyone.

"Pride of ownership!"

10.0

My wife and I were looking for a relaxing end of summer, labour day weekend getaway. I had noticed the Oakwood before and decided to give it a try. We stayed 3 nights and were made to feel welcome before we even got to the room. The room itself was spotless and spacious and well equipped with a nice sized fridge and a micro-wave as well as dishes and cutlery! We had a visit from my daughter and her family. The owner, Renata personally gave us a tour of her well manicured gardens and allowed us to sample the fresh vegetables while she educated the children on the home grown produce! Again, pride of ownership is something that gets my attention and this was evident at Oakwood from the minute we arrived until the minute we left. We had a great weekend and would certainly stay here again!

"Hidden gem of Gravenhurst"

10.0

My wife and I have been traveling to Gravenhurst for 9 years, by luck we discovered this motel 6 years ago and have enjoyed return visits every year. Renata is a friendly and gracious host who takes great care of her business. We have stayed exclusively in the cabins and have always found them to be impeccably clean and the grounds well manicured.

"Fathers Day Weekend visit"

10.0

My husband and I stayed here with our 3 little girls, just for one night in a sweet, clean and cozy cabin on the backside of the motel. The hosts of this place are exceptional. Renata is genuinely concerned about the well being of her guests and took my girls around her gardens to make a bouquet:) we enjoyed our bbq supper in the peaceful courtyard and I got to “break in” their fantastic new bbq. They accommodated parking for our fishing boat and when I forgot the babies stuffed bunny in the bed, Renata called me right away. We will absolutely return to this fantastic place!

"Friendly, caring owner"

8.0

The owner greeted us and when she found we were there for a funeral, she pick flowers from her gardens and made us a bouquet to take with us. She even placed as small wreath on our door, brought us coffee to make in the morning so we would not have to rush out to a restaurant.
