Isla Bank House

Great location near to the distillery. The food was excellent and we loved the room.

A beautifully renovated house with a warm welcome from the hosts. A very comfortable, relaxing stay.

There wasn't anything I disliked.

It was a beautiful home, had comfortable beds, and breakfast the next day was very tasty. The proprietor came and spoke to us at length at breakfast, giving us some history of the house and local area, which was great.

Arrived at 4, an hour ahead of specified check in, and was politely told to go away for an hour; check out the bars or shops in town, however on a Thursday afternoon, everything was closed. While I get that they did say no check in before 4, they should know the amenities in their town, and could have been more flexible, especially given the price. The propritoress was rude to my adult daughter and partner, inferring that they would not be careful of things in their room. Definitely a poor start to our stay.

Vena and Nick were very warm and welcoming hosts. Isla Bank is a beautiful and large 19th century building with very large gardens which Vena and Nick are painstakingly restoring. This is a long term project, but their efforts so far are very impressive. Their introduction and welcome is warm and genuine. Interior decor is befitting the age of the property. Bedrooms are large and well furnished. Our bathroom was particularly impressive. Importantly, breakfast was plentiful and cooked to perfection with seconds available if you felt up for a challenge!

Can't say there was anything that we didn't like but the lack of a TV in our bedroom was something we missed, but with wifi being available we could catch up with daily news via our tablet.......a minor issue really.

The house was a bit cold

What a lovely place to stay. The house itself is so picturesque - both inside and out. The breakfast and dinner were delicious (the Scottish porridge was really cosy and warming, and the eggs were so good!) and the hosts Vena and Nick were really helpful and kind - nothing was too much trouble and their recommendations for things to do in the area were great. The location was also super convenient for some of the distilleries we wanted to visit, including Balvenie, the Macallan, and Glendronach. We’d definitely recommend this beautiful property for a romantic weekend away or a relaxing getaway and would choose it again if we’re ever in this beautiful part of the country again - maybe we’d get lucky and see one of the local polecats or badgers!
