Avoid, they want you to pay $500 security deposit via Zelle in order to get key code to enter property. I saw reviews of previous stays after I paid for one room for one night. Apparently they use the security deposit as a way to scam you into writing a positive review. If you don’t, they’ll find a way to keep your deposit (policy violation, damage). So the positive marks here are highly suspicious considering they hold it as a contingency to get your deposit back. I messaged them asking how I can get written confirmation of the condition the property was in at check in (similar to picking up a rental car), but wasn’t satisfied with their response. I travel often and I’m considerate of how I leave the place, to the point where comments from owners of similar set ups say I left their place impecable. But the arrangement with this Booking didn’t feel right. I decided to not pay the security deposit to enter the property and therefore did not stay. I’d rather take $158 I prepaid for the room as a loss, and not risk losing an additional $500 with not getting a security deposit returned.

Attention soyez prévenus futurs touristes ! Ça n’a rien à voir avec une guest house tenue par des particuliers . On est carrément sur le mode « grosse machine » .vous ne verrez personne ! Par téléphone ou mail ! Après 10 heures de voyage, être malmenés devant une porte à code pour une histoire de deposit qu’il est impossible de faire… si vous ne parlez pas anglais réservez ce lieu aux américains ! D’autre part c’est relativement loin du centre ville donc vu que les taxis sont rares, les dépenses en Uber peuvent vite atteindre les 30 à 40 usd … finalement un hôtel hors de prix mais en centre devient plus économique.

On the first day, the host was very easy to reach and was helpful.

The upstairs noise (foot steps) was awful, and the room was so cold and damp that I had to stay under the covers the whole time. I moved out to another place after 4 nights.

I didn’t know what to expect since the overall rating on Booking seemed low compared to what I think the place actually deserves. The place was spotless, the room was very comfortable and clean, and during my stay there was no noise or anything around that bothered me. I would definitely recommend it, especially for women traveling alone. I rented the room with a private bathroom.

I liked how it is all so nicely set up for the guests to feel at home. It is rare to find a guest house with an interior of a great taste. This made a big difference compared to other hotels where you find bare bones of the 4 walls. I liked also the visitor rule of quiet time at night. People are different, so it is nice to be able to find quiet environment in a big city of Chicago. Additionally, guests are welcome to cook in a fully equipped kitchen. There is Mariano's store 6 minutes away from Villa Dubois with take out food, in case you want to skip unnecessary overspending in expensive restaurants. I will not hesitate to book a room in Villa Dubois again when I am around in Chicago.

I had a fantastic stay at Villa Dubois Guest House! The property is spotless, beautifully maintained, and feels like a true home away from home. My room was comfortable and quiet, and the shared spaces were welcoming and well-appointed. The hosts were responsive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Chicago.
