Grand Hôtel du Midi

We stayed here for 5 nights for a family vacation and were absolutely delighted with this hotel. It is truly a lovely, charming hotel, and consequently, our stay was quite comfortable. We booked a triple room and were pleasantly surprised at how much space we had. Our room was actually two rooms, a large one with the double bed and a smaller one with a single bed in an alcove. The small room, which was connected to the bathroom, had a refrigerator and electric tea kettle, along with bottles of water, tea bags, and coffee packets. Our grown son was especially pleased that there was a sliding door between the two bedrooms so he could have some privacy. The air conditioning worked very well, and our room had small touches that we appreciated, like tiny reading lamps on the wall next to the bed. Cedric and the entire front desk staff were always friendly, professional, and helpful. The hotel lobby is a very pleasant place to sit, and there is an elevator if the stairs present a problem for guests. This hotel's location makes it the perfect place to stay in Montpellier. The train station is within 2 blocks. There is a Monoprix grocery store next to the hotel. And most importantly, the hotel is located on the lively, beautiful Place de la Comedie, so an abundance of restaurants and shops are very close and convenient. (Our favorite restaurants were the Brasserie du Theatre, which is right next to the hotel, and Casa di Giorgio, which has fantastic pasta and pizza.) There's also a movie theater on the Place. If you have a car, you must park in the Place de la Comedie public parking garage, which is underground and only a very short walk across the Place to reach the hotel. The hotel breakfast is wonderful. The breakfast room/bar is quite charming, and there is a lovely array of breakfast foods (yogurts, cheeses, charcuterie, fresh fruit, breads and pastries, eggs, and breakfast meats.) We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return one day for another fantastic stay!

Beautiful, historic hotel in tbe center of the city. Our room was attractive and spacious with excellent AC. It’s Two minutes from many public transport options and shopping and restaurants galore. It would be even better with a gym. It’s a little inconvenient that cars cannot drive up in front, but taxis can. There is a parking garage entrance at the end of the block and reduced parking rate for 19 euros/night. Highly recommend.

Hôtel charmant et très bien situé, mais pas possible de s’approcher en voiture, parking public pas trop loin heureusement Équipe très agréable, chambre confortable mais un peu bruyante, seul vrai défaut la literie du canapé-lit d’appoint, à changer. Très bon petit déjeuner.

Gorgeous 19th century hotel with a modern update. Beautiful spacious rooms, fantastic breakfast, best possible location (centre ville, tramway, 5 min to train), amazingly thoughtful and helpful staff. Our stay here was the high point of our wonderful trip to Montpellier. 10/10, thank you Grand Hotel du Midi!

Stayed on 2 separate nights before and after getting the train for a few nights in Avignon. First night in a superior room and the second in a deluxe with Comedie Square view. Both were comfortable with great beds. The decor is, to our taste, an odd mixture of dark classic and modern contemporary. The extra money for the ‘deluxe with view’ was well worth it from our perspective - though the room (while large) is very odd with a huge circular free standing bath outside a small’ish shower room. Location and staff are exceptional! We’d probably stay again. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that.
