Chicago Lake Shore Hotel

The hotel shares "space" with a Best Western which was confusing especially when checking in. I had no idea until I questioned the breakfast being served. I was then told "Breakfast is for Best Western guests. Your hotel is just using our (Best Western's) lobby while they update theirs." I also witnessed the front staff arguing with two hotel guests which is not the way to begin a stay at a hotel. The room was in need of sprucing up with a broken and threadbare chair and non-functioning outlets (which isn't good in the age of technology).

The hotel smelt so weird. The rooms were very outdated.

Didn’t realize there are still smoking rooms. Our room smelled so bad and irritated our allergies. Property is quite old, but appeared to be clean.

Affordable, quick walk to public transportation

We felt safe and the hotel is in a great neighborhood. The rooms were surface cleaned but corners and base boards were dirty.

Good value and location. No recycling and disposable plastic toiletries.

Awful! The smoke detector didn't want us to be there on room entry. Wouldn't stop beeping. They told us to suck it up,it's just one night of incessant beeping. They would not replace the battery or give us another room. Had to figure that crap out ourselves or suffer! And their attitude to our suffering was sorry, we don't care. The entire weekend was fraught with one dirty thing after another not going right. And every time I called them, when they actually picked up, they had an attitude. I had to call twice just to get towels. And they made it sound like it was my fault that I used towels. I will never, ever go back there. And I came to town for Andrea Bocelli. Beautiful concert. Will never ever stay at Chicago Lake Shore Hotel again. If it wasn't for an amazing concert, my entire weekend would have been an overpriced crap show.

Upon entering the room, there was a somewhat strange smell. Probably due to the old carpet. Still, the bathroom and beds were clean.

I’ve visited their before and it wasn’t bad. But this time I had a horrible experience and won’t be returning there no time soon. The room I had didn’t have a refrigerator or microwave, the lamps didn’t work next to the bed. The toilet made a loud noise when flushing and to cap things off I was given a smoking building with constant noise up and down the stairs from housekeeping!
