The Goodwin

Drawn to Goodwin as Hartford's "Boutique Hotel." Great location for our needs, but sorely disappointed. Billed as a "superior" room, it was more like a garret with sloping attic walls and a skylight that wouldn't darken on the 5th floor. Floor was mostly uncarpeted and dirty. Mattress was saggy and old. Bathroom was dirty with a broken vanity leg and an ugly brown stain in bathtub. No coffee maker in room. No nightlight in bathroom. Bashed my leg on wrought iron coffee table in middle of night. Staff was friendly enough, but no one had any change, to allow us to tip the bellmen -- until we asked the manager. Included so-called "breakfast" was nearly non-existent. There were some dry cereals and a waffle-maker, but no batter that I could see. We skipped it entirely, and went out for breakfast. All this, for more than $400. for the night. Would have done better at a Hampton Inn for one-third the price. We won't be back anytime soon.

Room was nice. Clean and comfortable.

An advertised breakfast??? Paid for a breakfast that did not exist.

Location was great, near People’s Bank Arena. Beautiful hotel.

Room was a little tight- tough using the closet so close to the bed.

Wonderful hotel, but $100 pet fee per night? This hotel is not inexpensive, but for a $300 room rate, adding an additional $100 pet fee is ridiculous.

Staff was friendly and the hotel was in a great spot right downtown! Many things to do within walking distance. Hotel was clean and beds were comfortable

The bar Max could have used a little more help. The bartender we had was very friendly but the lady was not at all but everyone has a bad day and maybe it was a bad day for her

We stayed here for 2 nights in October and had a lovely King Suite on the 5th floor. It was a very spacious room with windows overlooking the street. It was quiet and clean and full of all the usual amenities. It's an old building that connects to another building so there are very long hallways with a few steps up or down. There's also 3 elevators. The continental breakfast was basic (coffee was nice & strong!) but the room that it is served in was very nice. The hotel is close to the Capital, sports arena, and many good restaurants. It's a big, beautiful building with a very small lobby. Park on the street for free on the weekends but beware of parking garages that may not open until later the next day. It might be best to valet. We would stay here again and would recommend it to family & friends.

Lovely hotel. Clean and comfortable. Great location. Updated with many convenient plugs for devices. Friendly and professional staff. We would definitely return. Only con- no decaf coffee on breakfast buffet.
