I managed the stairs. The lift was in a strange place

Smoking is permitted in the balconies. When we entered our room, we were immediately overpowered with a stale smoking smell. The manager disagreed but changed our room nonetheless. If people are permitted to smoke on the balconies, it easy to see that this can occur.

The room was epic!! The view was magical!

Set high above the lake with excellent views, this well apportioned but charmingly dated hotel boasts excellent staff service, really really good breakfasts, and a delightful sense of being transported back to the past where good service and excellent food in a beautiful setting was the norm. I loved being in a Victorian hotel, which retained some of its beautiful original features and furnishings. The view and the surroundings are to die for and I enjoyed reading about the history of the area. I had a bath in the room - which was great. Fantastic breakfasts. The staff were wonderful. And the small adjacent health spa is just lovely, with great staff too. The room was great value for the location, view and access to spa facilities.

In my view the room could do with a repaint and some new curtains (I love the old furniture though); there was scaffolding in part of the beautiful view from the restaurant, and my experience of the food was mixed... We had a terrible risotto and limp salad; then a very good fish with not so great chips. Basically the evening meals and the quality of the tea and coffee are not brilliant and so we felt that the food was less good in terms of value for money.
