Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs, a Member of Design Hotels

Avalon delivers a modern twist on the classic Hollywood of Palm Springs. The hotel provides excellent customer service in a convenient, walkable setting. We enjoyed the pool areas and high-quality breakfasts at Chi Chi. The room itself was large and comfortable. Insider's tip: While you're staying here, check out the amenities and unique history at the sister location, Inglewood, next door. Melvin's is a must for dinner.

This hotel is not worth the expense. I would also say that it’s deceptive to charge a $57 fee for using the “resort.” As far as I could tell there was only a small pool, which is equivalent to what you’d get at a Holiday Inn. There were no tennis courts, golf course, spa or anything else that I would typically associate with a resort. So why are customers being charged a resort usage fee!? I also don’t believe that I saw that indicated on the website. But that wasn’t my biggest issue with staying there. In general, I felt the rooms were rundown, and the hot water was turned off from 4 to 7 PM which basically meant that we couldn’t shower after hiking all day and had to cancel our dinner plans. If I return to Palm Springs, I won’t be staying there.

Really enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Avalon. We were a family of 5 staying in a 2-bedroom bungalow. Very comfortable and spacious. The staff was friendly, the pools and grounds were clean and well maintained. Enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant and happy hour. Location couldn't be beat - walking distance to the main street!

Wow, we loved this hotel. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the clientele are very respectful. The food was good and I especially appreciated the value of the happy hour. The amenities are well maintained and you should stay here for the pool alone. Excellent location. I loved the spa. If you go to the spa, please ask for Randi. She’s incredible. If I had one negative comment, it would be that I found the bed a bit uncomfortable. I remedied this easily though with extra blankets, which functioned as a mattress pad. My partner had no issues though and I think it’s a matter of personal taste!

Great location. Walking distance to bars, restaurants, hiking, and museums. Meticulously manicured lawns and public spaces. The absolute best service. From check-in to check-out (and even some hours after due to a late flight), the staff truly made us feel welcome and went out of their way for us. The breakfast at the Chi Chi lounge is a must. The rooms are rad. Stellar vibe. 12/10

Okay so this place is lovely. We had a suite which was bigger than our apartment. The grounds are beautiful. It’s right in the middle of Palm Springs near any restaurant you want or the art gallery or shops. Free coffee and pastries every morning. Very happy to see dogs. That all said, there was some weirdness that really detracted from the stay which, considering the price, I found difficult to ignore. The suite comes with a kitchen with a stove and fridge and full counters and everything, however there’s barely any cooking equipment and what there is is old and tired. You have a resort fee so you can access the 3 pools plus spa which means the sauna, steam room, cold plunge and jacuzzi. One day there was a wedding so they kick everyone out all of the pools at 3pm for the rest of the day. The next day the spa tells everyone they can’t access their facilities anymore and the manager puts out reserved signs everywhere to gate keep the jacuzzi area because they have people having services (they had a couple of people) even though the website says priority for loungers is for hotel guests?! She was rude and strange and basically tried to prevent guests using what we had paid for without reason. After complaining I was refunded just one day resort fees even though the spa situation impacted two days and the pool situation our first day. It’s just not something you expect when you’re paying a lot for a hotel as a treat on a special occasion. To be treated like nuisances is not what you expect.

Stayed for a business conference and couldn’t have been more satisfied with the property and overwhelmed by the service in their lobby bar. John/ Jon behind the bar helped keep my evenings intriguing with his excellent service and over-the-top knowledge when it came to helping me choose which spirit(s) to enjoy each night. I’ll give him or whoever orders for a bar a pass on the DAOU selection - I just feel it’s an underperforming wine with so many better options from Paso available - The Fableist being one of my highest recommendations. Anyways - thank you Avalon, thank you John/ Jon for turning a boring business conference into a relaxing, entertaining and insightful stay in December!

Beautiful grounds meticulously landscaped in an excellent location. Peaceful quiet setting was super low key.

Main restaurant dinner menu could have some more options but the food was very good and breakfast was awesome!

The family and I had a wonderful stay at the Avalon hotel in Palm Springs. We stayed in a one bedroom bungalow near the family pool area. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and the kitchenette was perfect for storing snacks and drinks. The hotel staff was super friendly, from the front desk to the wait staff at the Chi Chi restaurant. They even let our kids feed the koi fish, which they loved. We traveled in early December and it never felt busy or crowded. Family pool was very nice and relaxing and the hot tub area was also wonderful. Breakfast at the Chi Chi was also great. Food was excellent and they had a lot of options for the kids and parents. We stayed in the secured parking area that was super convenient. Street parking was also an option but did notice that was limited during various times of day. Would recommend this place for families and hope to go back again in the future!

Didn't seem tidy and there was no attention to detail. When we arrived, they gave me a piece of paper with some rules to sign that looked like interrogation. Aweful, after being in traffic for 4 hours. Some landscaping look untidy and there is dust on evergreen hedges. The piano player at Ingleside's Melvyn's was not very friendly. On check-out, they proceeded to automatically add Amenities Fee, but they didn't tell us that this includes tea and scones, or that it includes the pool at Ingleside. The shower was not working properly and curtain didn't slide well. There was no kettle or tea in our room. The staff at the Avalon bar next to reception was very casual, just flirting between each other and ignoring us. We didn't think this stay was as special or nice as the one with Viceroy. We remembered the amazing Viceroy Hotel, how glamorous and gorgeous the adult pool was. This hotel is nothing like it. Disappointed that it had to change. THe wedding venues were not well-utilised, that area seems wasted and empty.
